Meet Kimberly Usery of Mama Kim’s Boiled Peanuts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Usery.

Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my business to support my family to be honest! I was a Rising Area Coach in the Charlotte area for a major food chain and got hurt: I didn’t know what I was going to do with myself once I was unable to work my normal job they way I always have. So I decided why not Boiled Peanuts. I started with 4 burners in and old trailer that had rotten boards that you had to be careful walking on. From there I got deeper and deeper! Finally got a tents, tables, two peanut carts Peter and Pearl and from there we started making a name for ourselves my children and I. I then moved to Charleston and was commuting back and forth spreading the Mama Kim’s Boiled Peanuts brand from city to city and event to event. As business got better and word spread I finally was in Charleston for good! I can’t work as much as I would love to but I have been very grateful for the events and locations that allow me to set up and also my partnership with The Caribbean Soulfood Truck!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! Some days are very easy and some days are hard! Being hurt and still lifting and working and making things happen as a mother get tough. But the excitement, love from customers, and praise for such amazing boiled peanuts makes it all worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mama Kim’s Boiled Peanuts?
I am a single owned Southern Boiled Peanut Business that specializes in amazing eclectic flavors of peanuts and specialty desserts!!! I take pride in making sure I have the freshest, flavorful, and amazing peanuts in the East Coast! I want even people who do not like boiled peanuts to try mine and turn into believers and most do! I only support small businesses and vendors for my products, I want the town and cities to flourish and grow, I donate to community events & homeless with extras I have, and take pride in making sure I make everyone happy and are happy spending their hard earned money on my product.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
In general I love Charleston and its beauty and the encouragement you receive, the least is definitely the traffic!
