The Sweet Spot COLA started with me baking cookies and cakes as a creative outlet outside my healthcare career. I’ve always believed that desserts should taste as good as they look, which is why I stick to clean ingredients — real butter, real chocolate, fresh zest, and absolutely no artificial flavors or toxic dyes. People can feel the difference, and that’s been a big part of our growth.
When my daughter, Jeneene, joined me, the vision expanded. Together, we’ve turned The Sweet Spot COLA into more than just cookies — we create custom cakes, cupcakes, and event desserts that are elegant, playful, and unforgettable.
At its heart, The Sweet Spot COLA is a mother-daughter business rooted in love, creativity, and a commitment to quality. Whether it’s a wedding cake, a care-package cookie box, or a sweet treat ‘just because,’ our goal is simple: to create desserts that make people smile, without all the unnecessary extras.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. On the business side, one of the first hurdles was licensing. Because we ship nationwide, we couldn’t just stop at a basic retail food permit — we had to make sure everything was compliant for e-commerce, from FDA food facility registration to proper labeling. That was a big learning curve, and it took time and persistence to get it right.
But honestly, the biggest struggle has been in the kitchen. Perfecting stuffed cookie recipes that hold their shape, taste incredible, and travel well was not easy. I went through a lot of trial and error — and maybe even more family taste-tests. My family, especially my daughter Jeneene, are my toughest critics, and they don’t let anything slide. If a cookie doesn’t make them pause and say, ‘Wow,’ it doesn’t make it to customers. Looking back, that finicky feedback was a blessing, because it pushed me to refine the recipes into what they are today.
We’ve been impressed with Sweet Spot COLA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At The Sweet Spot COLA, we bake cookies and cakes that are bold, playful, and made with clean ingredients. How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is seeing people light up when they taste our desserts. There’s something so special about creating a cookie or cake in our kitchen and then watching it bring joy to someone miles away — whether it’s a college student getting a care package, a bride seeing her wedding cake for the first time, or a family gathering around for dessert.
It also makes me happy that I get to build this business with my daughter, Jeneene. Sharing the ups, downs, and successes together has been one of the greatest gifts. At the end of the day, I’m happiest when I know we’ve created something that connects people, celebrates moments, and makes life just a little sweeter.
