Meet Jennifer Middleton of The Mad Smash

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Middleton.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a massage therapist, it became clear to me that people need a way to actively, physically release stress.
Smashing things is a good way to symbolically destroy the stressful emotions, event, or memory while also letting go of the energy held in the body. It also can help with a sense of freedom as people are generally taught not to break things very early in life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been plenty of challenges as any business owner will know but the biggest challenge was trying to balance being a mom of 3 kids, continuing to do massage, and building the rage room. During the build out I remember scheduling family activities on the calendar once a week to make sure I was spending some quality time with my kids.

We’ve been impressed with The Mad Smash, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Mad Smash is a rage room where people can come to smash items to relieve stress or simply have some fun! We also have splatter painting and a car to beat up. The glass breaking is very satisfying to hear and watch and the car is where you can let loose full blast!
We serve individuals all the way up to corporate events with a party room available for your own food and drinks to be enjoyed when booking a party.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
One of the first places I went for help was SCORE and I got a business mentor. He helped me see some of the business side of things and pointed me towards the SBDC to learn about budgeting and projections. I still occasionally take online SCORE classes that are offered.
