Meet Hayley Zammuto of South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Zammuto.

Hi Hayley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey with dance began long before Holy City Dance Center ever existed. Like many studio owners, I grew up in the dance world and developed a deep love not only for performing, but for the confidence, discipline, and sense of belonging that dance can provide.
After years of training, teaching, and working in various roles within the dance industry, I realized I wanted to create a studio that focused on more than just technique and competition results. I wanted to build a place where dancers could be challenged, supported, and encouraged to grow into kind, confident young people.
In 2023, that vision became reality when I opened Holy City Dance Center. What started as a dream has grown beyond anything I could have imagined. Today, we proudly serve hundreds of dancers across two Charleston-area locations and have built an award-winning program known for both its high standards and its heart.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Like any small business owner, I’ve faced challenges, growing pains, and moments of uncertainty. One of the most transformative experiences came when my daughter, was born prematurely and spent months in the NICU. Navigating motherhood, medical challenges, and business ownership simultaneously gave me a new perspective on resilience, gratitude, and the importance of community.
Today, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built. While awards and accomplishments are exciting, what means the most to me is seeing our dancers develop confidence, lifelong friendships, strong work ethics, and a genuine love for dance. As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to create a positive environment where every dancer feels seen, valued, and inspired to become the best version of themselves.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Personally, my heart has always been in the entertainment side of the dance world. Point me toward a Broadway stage, a theatrical production, or a costume covered in rhinestones, and I’m immediately in my happy place. I love the glitz, glamour, and storytelling that make dance such a unique art form. At the same time, I have a special appreciation for working with beginner dancers. There is something incredibly rewarding about watching a child walk into their first dance class unsure of themselves and then slowly discover their confidence, passion, and place within the dance community.
While I am proud of the growth of our studio and the accomplishments of our dancers, what brings me the greatest joy is watching the people around me flourish. Some of my proudest moments have come from seeing our staff develop into exceptional instructors, choreographers, and leaders. Being able to mentor, encourage, and support their growth is one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. Watching a teacher gain confidence in their abilities, create something they’re proud of, or make a meaningful impact on a student is every bit as rewarding as watching a dancer succeed on stage.
What sets us apart is our commitment to balancing excellence with heart. We hold our dancers to high standards and encourage them to reach their full potential, but we never lose sight of the fact that they are children first. We strive to create a family atmosphere where every dancer feels valued, whether they dream of a professional dance career or simply want a place where they belong. That combination of strong training, meaningful relationships, and a genuine investment in each child’s growth is what makes Holy City Dance Center special and what continues to inspire me every day.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is watching people discover they are capable of more than they ever believed possible.
Whether it’s a young dancer landing a skill they’ve been working toward for months, a shy child finding confidence on stage, a graduating senior achieving a lifelong goal, or one of my instructors stepping into their own as a choreographer and leader, those moments never get old. I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career where I get to witness so much personal growth and transformation.
Outside of the studio, my greatest joy is my family. Becoming a mother has given me a whole new perspective on life and success. My daughter, Sadie, reminds me every day to slow down, celebrate the little victories, and appreciate the moments that matter most. After everything our family has been through during her early months, I don’t take a single milestone for granted.
At the end of the day, what makes me happiest is connection—helping people grow, celebrating their successes, and building a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and inspired to become the best version of themselves.
