Hi Gary, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well to start, I would like to share a fun fact on the origin’s for my business name.
AS’E is pronounced as “Ah-Shay”, which is derived from the Yoruba language spoken by the Yoruba Tribe who originated in West Africa.
Ah-Shay has various meanings, including power, energy, and life and it represents the power to create change and make things happen. Another fun fact is that AS’E is also an acronym that stands for Athletic, Sustainability, and Evolution.
From that premise, AS’E Sports grew as a powerful mental vision rooted in my lifelong love for sports. As a former high school and collegiate athlete, my passion for the game has always been a driving force in my life and now I look to serve others through my experiences and expertise.
After leaving Rutgers University in 2010, I faced the challenge of finding a fulfilling career. I navigated various industries but struggled to discover a path that felt truly aligned with my purpose. Compounding this difficulty was the emotional toll of a career-ending knee injury that closed the door on my professional football dreams. This period of uncertainty and depression definitely tested my resilience through adversity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to where I am today has been far from smooth. On my journey, there have been numerous obstacles, many of which I’ve overcome, while others I am still navigating to this day.
One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced has been building AS’E SPORTS, LLC from the ground up entirely on my own. Starting a business is never easy, and taking on every function—big and small—can be overwhelming and exhausting. Yet, this experience has also been deeply rewarding, teaching me resilience, adaptability, and the value of persistence.
I am incredibly proud of how far I’ve come despite these challenges. But what excites me even more is the progress I’m making toward building a team—a group of talented individuals who will not only help lighten my workload but also contribute to the future growth and success of AS’E SPORTS, LLC.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
At this point in my life, I don’t place much belief in luck. By definition, luck is “success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one’s own actions.” To me, the journey we take is part of a divine plan, a path uniquely designed for each of us.
The success we achieve along the way stems from the actions we take to bring our visions to life and manifest our thoughts into reality.
I believe I’ve been more blessed than lucky when it comes to the development and growth of AS’E SPORTS, LLC, as well as the successes I’ve experienced in life.
My path hasn’t been perfect, but every challenge and triumph has played a vital role in shaping who I am today. The hard times strengthened me mentally and spiritually, while the good times reminded me of the power of perseverance and faith.
These experiences have given me confidence not only in my abilities as a professional but also in the authenticity of my journey. I’m grateful for every step, knowing that what may seem like “luck” to some is truly the result of divine guidance and intentional effort.
