Today we’d like to introduce you to Fredrick “Russ” Russell.
Hi Fredrick “Russ”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am Fredrick Russell, or known as Russ to my podcast audience. I am the Founder & CEO, TMSP Media
creator of The Man Space Podcast and visionary behind WTMSTV.com.
Podcasting had been on my heart for a long time. Like so many of us, I kept saying, “one day,” while life kept throwing distractions, responsibilities, and excuses in my way.
Then one Sunday, everything changed. I was sitting in church, minding my own business, when I heard a voice—clear as day—say: “Do your show now.” I looked at my wife beside me. She was locked into the sermon, eyes straight ahead, unaware. I glanced around the sanctuary—folks were clapping, shouting “Amen!” and “You preaching!”—but I couldn’t shake it. The voice came again, louder this time:
“Do your show now. You’ll help more people with your voice than from a pulpit.”
Right then and there, I opened my tablet and started typing. Ideas. Episode titles. Topics. A list of people I wanted to build with. The vision was clear.
That same afternoon, I called one of my closest friends, Rodney “Less” Lester. I said, “Bro, I think it’s time. Let’s start a podcast.” We talked for an hour, bouncing ideas, building on the energy. Three days later, we were in front of the mics. One week after that, The Man Space Podcast dropped its first episode on July 1, 2020
Was it perfect? Not even close. We learned from our mistakes, and now we are launching season 6 of weekly content this July.
Needless to say, those early episodes were rough. I was fixing sound levels in post, adding effects, cutting out mistakes—I was learning on the fly. But I was in the zone.
A few months after the launch of The Man Space Podcast, my wife landed her own talk radio segment on Women Inspirational Radio. Her segments were pre-recorded and fully edited by me. Before long, people started noticing her show sounded way cleaner than anything else on the network. Suddenly, folks were asking me,
“Hey… can you edit my show too?”
That little “yes” turned into a big opportunity. I became the lead engineer behind the Empowerment Podcast Network.
Then came the next level: video podcasting, full post-production, and finally the creation of WTMSTV.com, an online network for content creators to showcase their work on their own terms.
Long story short, this all started from a whisper in church to building platforms for voices around the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been far from a smooth ride. Like anything worth doing, life has a funny way of getting in the way. Between the chaos of the pandemic, family responsibilities, and the daily grind of a 9-to-5, there were plenty of moments when I felt like I wanted to give up.
Trying to find balance without burning out? That became the real challenge, especially while creating fresh content every single week. Let’s be real, some days I felt inspired… and other days, I was just trying not to fall asleep on the keyboard. But I kept showing up, because the mission was bigger than the mess.
As you know, we’re big fans of TMSP Media. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
TMSP Media is a full-service post-production company specializing in both audio and video podcast editing. Whether you’re recording in a studio or from your living room, we handle the heavy lifting. So you can focus on your voice and not the tech.
But we don’t stop at editing. TMSP Media also offers podcast distribution to all major platforms, and we proudly host video podcasts on our own network, WTMSTV.com, giving creators a professional space to shine.
What started as a moment of inspiration in church turned into two guys on a Zoom call, armed with a webcam, a headset, and a vision. Today, that vision is making a real impact. We help aspiring podcasters, especially those who don’t know where to start with tech, bring their ideas to life and turn dreams into downloadable episodes.
At TMSP Media, we’re not just producing podcasts. We’re building platforms, amplifying voices, and creating community one episode at a time.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
This is something I tell people starting out. Most podcasts fail within 1-3 months. Why? Because they focus on numbers, perfection, or trying to please everyone.
But when you focus on enjoying the process, when you create content that truly makes you happy, you won’t fail. Even if the audience is small at first, your passion will keep you going. And that consistency? That’s what leads to growth, impact, and longevity.
Create with joy, and the success will follow.
