Meet Dustin Walters of Salty Bird Charters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Walters.

Hi Dustin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Dustin Walters. I’m 37 years old and in 2025 obtained my captains license to follow my dream of starting a fishing charter business. I have been fishing as long as I can remember, and if I’m not fishing, then I’m on the water another way -like boating or surfing. I have also been a bartender for about 15 years, so that’s allowed me To spend a lot of time with my outdoor hobbies. I married my wife, Nikki, in 2011. Together, we have three daughters, Suttons (12), Belle (9), and Layla (1.5). My wife, who is an ICU nurse, also loves to spend all her free time on the boat and fishing, so our date nights consist of getting a babysitter to go flounder gigging in Pawleys island. There is nothing that makes me happier than taking clients out and having them experience a big catch, that they can also take home to enjoy later. I consider being a charter captain more of an additional hobby than an additional job. There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than this.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The captains license was a lot harder than I thought it would be to get. I thought I had pretty good knowledge of boating and the laws before I started the classes, but it was a lot more intense than I anticipated. Everyone can rest assured that licensed captains really know their stuff.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Salty Bird Charters?
