Meet Desmon Rush of Dentsville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desmon Rush

Hi Desmon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have long had a passion for art. It has been my vector of expressing my inspirations. Since 2017, I’ve been working for others on commission to help them express their creative ideas with my abilities. This year, I had a realization that I had set my feelings and passions aside for too long and I had not fully explored my abilities as an artist. I left my job at Prisma Health and decided to fully commit to myself and my art.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We are still in the early stages of our business as we officially started it in March but I’d say I have prepared well for it. Many of the materials and equipment used for shirt production and drawing were bought through the past few years with the knowledge it would be put to good use when I fully committed to this venture. These prior investments such as printing materials, a high end computer, screen print press and inks, and the honing of my skills as an artist are making it so we have the means to keep up with demand and develop new products all in house as needed. We’ve experienced making unpopular products and not having enough of our popular products. We have been going to numerous festival, markets, and events meeting new people, conversing about our struggles, and getting our name out there and our products into people’s hands. I believe the obstacle of finance will always be a hurdle for a business especially one in its first year, but as long as there’s a long term plan, the struggles will only strengthen you in your field.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self taught artist who specialized in illustrations with a graphic design focus. Meaning, I try to simplify my designs into something that can be recognizable from any distance. The design philosophy I’ve adopted is to imagine what I am creating could go on a billboard, business card, or a shirt. I’ve studied many art styles and mediums in watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, sketch, inks, photography, digital art, and design, Each skill I’ve honed for the purposes of having a one stop shop for any individual to find something in my various styles they like. These skills also help so I do not need to outsource much saving cost wise and giving every aspect in the business a personalized touch.

What makes you happy?
I have a passion for helping and uplifting others as my greatest drive and I’ve spend my entire life putting others ahead of myself. Over the past year, I’ve learned that the way I have gone about my life has led to me being taken advantage of in many ways which has sabotaged me by not living to my fullest potential. This past year has taught me that in order to give my best self to others, I need to care for myself as well. Going into this business is my attempt at showcasing that I am trying to give my all for myself as well as others and not only for others to take.
