Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I originally started doing taxes for family and friends to supplement my income in 2014. I didn’t like living paycheck to paycheck. Once I began doing taxes, I realized that it was a real interest of mine. I have a real passion for what I do. I embraced the new journey and launched my research into opening my own practice. After 3 years of building my clientele through word of mouth, I was able to open a storefront for my business. After establishing myself, I was blessed to leave the workforce within a year of opening. I’ve been in the industry for over 10 years now. I have been able to be this successful by being professional and putting in hard work to build my business up. I love what I do. Being able to see the smiles and joy on my clients’ faces when I help them with their tax situations brings me joy. I pride myself in being knowledgeable and updated on tax laws because it helps with doing my due diligence. I pour into my community, and in return I have loyal clients who continue to come back every year; they have referred their families and friends to my business. Without my loyal clients, it wouldn’t be a business to run. My mission is to build a brand that my community can trust and believe in.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. One struggle I faced was finding the right mentor to help me setup my office as far software, service bureau to use, the right bank product, etc. Another struggle was bringing in enough business to make sure I can keep my office running all year long. Using my resources to make sure my funds lasted to the end of the year. Thirdly, marketing myself to bring in new clients that wasn’t through word of mouth. Lastly, making sure I was in compliance with the IRS regulations and my due diligence, so I wouldn’t be fine for incorrect tax returns prepared. I knew I needed to make it work and stick with it because I knew I wanted to be my own boss. I didn’t want to go back in the workforce.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My view on risk taking is that you have step out on faith at some point in your life. If you don’t take risks then you’ll never know if you can do something that you thought you couldn’t do. It’s okay if you fail the first time, the important step is to never give up and keep enduring. I feel you should learn from every risk, so the same mistakes aren’t made. You don’t get what or where you want in life without takes some risk. Nothing worth having is going to come easy. When you really want something and it’s meant for you then it’s gong to be some bumps in the road to get there. Your purpose is yours to grab. We all have a niche, it’s up to each individual to take a risk to find it. I do believe risks shouldn’t be impulsive. You should do your research and preparation, so you can understand the potential outcomes. The risk I took was leaving my State job to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur. I wasn’t sure that it would take me where I am now, but I was willing to take a risk to find out. I’m glad I did take the risk because I love what I do and happy every year with the growth of my business. Growth rarely happens when you’re in your comfort zone.
