Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Swinford.
Hi Brian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always enjoyed building things with my hands. About ten years ago, I worked full-time as an engineer but wanted to pursue something creative. Swinford Designs was born when I started experimenting with different woodworking and finishing techniques. I pioneered an antiquing process that gives my finished products a leathery texture and feels for a truly vintage look. Over the years, I have refined my process and now work full-time as the owner of Swinford Designs. I also build all of my frames by hand at my workshop in Athens, GA. I have given new life to vintage posters, albums, and iconic images through my artwork.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall the road has been fairly smooth. Rather than struggles, I refer to these things as building blocks. The key thing for me is to listen carefully to all customer feedback, take it on, and use their suggestions to improve my product. This approach has led to my success at our many in-person events- with each show; I listen to what the customers would like to see and bring it for them the next time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Swinford Designs?
