Meet Brian Hubbs of Culinary Domination llc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Hubbs

Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From the rugged landscapes of New York to the vibrant fields of South Carolina, my journey has been one of transformation and passion. For most of my life, I dedicated myself to physically demanding professions—working as an Iron Worker, Millwright, Welder, and General Contractor. These roles shaped my work ethic and resilience, yet they never quenched my true passion: cooking. Cooking has always been my sanctuary, a space where I could express creativity and love, whether it was barbecuing with family on weekends or preparing meals for special occasions. In 2018, I made a pivotal decision to relocate my family to South Carolina, where I could care for my Inlaws and my elderly parents in their golden years. This move ignited a spark within me, leading to the birth of Hubbs Family Farm SC in 2020. What began as a small venture selling homemade goods at local farmers’ markets soon blossomed into Culinary Domination, a corporation boasting over 56 products now becoming available in local stores. My culinary journey has been rich with challenges and triumphs. I eagerly entered numerous sauce and rub contests, consistently placing in the top five among more than seventy entries, with several recipes earning awards. In the past two years, I dove into local cook-offs, showcasing my skills with wings, chicken bog, BBQ, and my pride and joy—my award-winning chili. In 2024, I took a leap of faith and entered the ICS World Open Chili Cook-Off. To my delight, I not only secured first place with the judges but also won the coveted “People’s Choice” award. This achievement opened doors, leading me to the prestigious World Food Championships in Indianapolis. While I didn’t qualify for the final table, the invaluable experience and insights I gained were worth their weight in gold. Just recently, in 2025, I joined the ICS Pro Series Chili Cook-Offs, where I participated in my first event in Mt. Olive, NC. Entering with a mix of excitement and nerves, I was thrilled to place fifth with the judges and take home the “People’s Choice” award once again. As I reflect on this journey, I see a tapestry woven with hard work, passion, and an unwavering commitment to growth. Each competition teaches me something new, and I look forward to applying those lessons in future cook-offs. My story is one of embracing change and pursuing dreams, proving that it’s never too late to follow your heart, even when the road is paved with challenges. But the end result in our journey is to own a food truck or small bbq cafe

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has certainly not been a smooth one, and I’ve encountered numerous challenges along the way. Balancing the demands of running a business while caring for my family has tested my limits. My mother faced end-stage kidney disease, and my father has Alzheimer’s, which has added layers of complexity to my daily life. Throughout this time, my mother was a remarkable source of strength. She always encouraged me to pursue my culinary passion, and she loved being my taste tester, providing invaluable feedback on my creations. Her unwavering support kept our family grounded, and I often drew inspiration from her resilience. Unfortunately, we lost my mother in April of 2024. Navigating that loss has been profoundly difficult, but I feel blessed to continue caring for my father. Managing his needs while juggling the responsibilities of a business and participating in competitions can be overwhelming at times. However, I’m incredibly fortunate to have a loving family that steps in to help whenever they can. Their support has been a lifeline, allowing me to balance these important aspects of my life and continue pursuing my culinary dreams.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We are especially proud of the overwhelming support we’ve received from our community, friends, and family. Their encouragement has been instrumental in helping us turn this dream into a reality. Cooking is not just about the food; it’s about showcasing love and passion for family and fostering connections. Our brand embodies that spirit, and we are excited to continue sharing our journey with others.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always ambitious and competitive, eager to learn and try new things. I had a natural curiosity that drove me to take everything apart, just to understand how they worked, and then put them back together, often in new and improved ways. This hands-on approach not only fueled my mechanical inclination but also laid the groundwork for my culinary journey. My ability to break down complex flavors and layers in cooking can be traced back to this childhood curiosity. Just as I dissected mechanical objects to see what made them tick, I began to explore the nuances of flavor combinations and techniques in the kitchen. This foundation of experimentation and innovation has been a guiding force in my culinary endeavors, allowing me to create unique dishes that reflect my passion and creativity.
