Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Welch
Hi Andrew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The story of Mr. Fence It, Inc. dates back to before the company was created. I come from family of business owners and pastors. The two occupations combined have steered me towards a servant/service based business. Mr. Fence It, Inc. gives me and the staff the tool to help our neighbors and to help the community.
Owning a fence business since 2011 has given me a working knowledge of how to and how not to do certain things within the fence business. It has also shown me how important it is to keep the standards intact inside your company. The customers rely on us to be honest, competent, and reliable. We strive to meet that expectation so there can be an expected outcome and budget for their project. We are not perfect but we strive to get things right the first time and if we don’t, to make it right.
Being a privately owned company we have the ability to make decisions on a personal level with each client and the ability to know, vet, and trust every staff member and installer. The mission statement for the company is “To provide a great environment for great people to work by providing a great service to the community.”
We strive to use American Made products only that have a lifetime warranty so our customers know that their money is safe and it stays in our community. This also ensures that their manufacturer can be reached locally instead of living across the ocean.
The material is great but it still has to be installed correctly. We have over 70 combined years of installation experience across our installation team. This experience is shared and used to ensure the fence gets put in the ground the correct way to help prevent short term and long term problems for our customer. A great product and a great installation will ensure that the customer’s fence is not an expense but an investment.
Our service area has new families moving in every day. Being knew to the area and not knowing who you can trust can make it difficult to know which company you should use. We are thankful that we have the opportunity to serve and teach them as they make their decision. We strive to give each customer honest feedback and direction from the first phone call to the final walk through to make their installation process informative and clear.
We are thankful to have the opportunity to serve our community and look forward to helping them in years to come.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
def not. started a fence company. merged with a fence company. closed the original to put all my focus in the one i merged with (family). After building it to a 4M company, the owner and I had to part ways due to ethics and division. (divorcing my sister) left for less than 1% of gross sales.
started the new company (Mr. Fence It, Inc.) from scratch within a year of when I got married. Worked in two states from the beginning. burned the tires off of multiple vehicles, only made time for my wife outside of work and never slept for 2-3 years. Ended up in 27 counties to only decide it was the wrong direction for the family. shut down, gave away, and sold off the branches and equipment so i could stay home and focus on the family and the local community.
the experience and pain was worth it because i was able to tasted to corporate feel of a company and how it isn’t what’s best for employees, customers, or the family. Thankful to the experience that the different branches gave me in terms of fence. one was almost all wood, another almost all steel(chainlink and cattle fence) and the other almost all vinyl and aluminum fences. To say my experience is diverse is an understatement. my experience has come at a large financial cost and large time and energy. I would rather not have the experience because that would mean that I was smarter and more discerning when I was younger but here I am.
as you can imagine, the amount of people I’ve fired (including friends and family) has given me a the staff the ability to see a diamond and a piece of coal very easily. I’m mainly thankful for that because it allows us to see the people that need us and the people that would divide us. There is enough division in this world, I don’t need more of it in the business or the family.
This business is God’s and He allows me to run to it. I don’t plan on bringing issues or drama into it. We need people that help us stay true to what we believe because the market tries to pull in the cheapest, quickest direction vs the best (which is usually the hardest).
So no, not smooth but no one should complain about the bumpy road if their is an ice cream shop at the end of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Mr. Fence It, Inc.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a family owned and operated fence company. We work in Horry County, Georgetown County, and Brunswick County.
We have a personal feel with some corporate abilities. We do quality work with quality American Made material compared to some other options that use newly trained labor and imported products.
We have the highest Googe 5 Star Review Rating in the area. We are trusted by local builders, contractors, and realtors.
We install all types of fencing and offer a free consultation with every free estimate. We are local to the area and know the different guidelines for HOA and Municipalities as well as the county. We keep a staff member on just to help with all the guidelines needed for fencing in our area.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We have the opportunity to meet people from all over the country and sometimes the world due to our area growing, it being a retirement community, and from it’s organic growth in population.
least
I hate that the population and it’s need for skilled labor has grown faster than the growth in skilled craftsmanship. This causes a lot of newly moved families to give their project to someone that isn’t skilled and experienced enough in the installation of fence. We have hurricanes. It’s a guarantee. You have to install fencing according to the future/longterm weather and new fence contractors simply do not have enough years in the business to know what does and does not work for keeping a fence together during a storm.
