Hi Alison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the vacation rental industry began when my husband and I purchased a lakefront property with the intention of using short-term rentals to help offset the mortgage. What started as a practical financial decision quickly turned into something much more meaningful.

As we began renting the property, we were amazed not only by the level of income it generated, but by the potential of the business itself. That experience sparked a deep curiosity in me, and I became determined to understand every aspect of the industry—from listing optimization and guest experience to property management and interior design.

I immersed myself in learning, eventually earning certifications in both property management and interior decorating. With each step, my passion grew stronger, and it became clear that this was more than just an investment—it was an opportunity to build something of my own.

That realization ultimately led to the creation of my company, SimpliHosted, where I now help others maximize the potential of their properties while delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges in the vacation rental industry is that it’s constantly evolving. Regulations, market demand, and platform algorithms can change quickly, so staying informed and adaptable is essential.

Another challenge is maintaining consistency in the guest experience. Unlike traditional hospitality, every property is different, which means you have to be very intentional about systems, communication, and quality control to ensure every guest has a seamless stay.

There’s also the operational side—coordinating cleaning teams, handling maintenance issues, and responding to guest needs in real time. It requires strong organization and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Between changing regulations, dynamic pricing, guest expectations, and managing the day-to-day logistics, there are a lot of moving parts. But that’s actually where I’ve found my edge. I’ve invested heavily in education, systems, and design so that every property I manage runs efficiently and stands out in a competitive market.

For me, the challenges are what create the opportunity to do it better than most.

Simply Hosted is a family owned, and operated, full-service vacation rental management and design company dedicated to helping property owners maximize both income and guest experience. What began with my own lakefront rental quickly evolved into a passion for the industry and a business built on strategy, hospitality, and thoughtful design.

  • • Interior Styling & Design Services • $500–$2,500+ (depending on size and scope) • Includes design consultation, sourcing furnishings/decor, and styling for guest appeal and functionality
  • • Co-Hosting / Partial Management • 10–20% of monthly rental revenue • Ideal for owners who want support with guest communication, calendar management, or specific operations
  • • Full-Service Vacation Rental Management • 20–30% of monthly rental revenue • Includes guest communication, booking management, pricing optimization, coordination of cleaning & maintenance, and full operational oversight
