Our journey with The Modern Beauty Lounge is truly one of passion, perseverance, and purpose.
I’m Tracey Liggett, and alongside my daughter Kitana Liggett, we proudly own and operate The Modern Beauty Lounge. For the past 14 years, I’ve been living with fibromyalgia—a chronic condition that has challenged me in countless ways. But rather than let it define or limit me, I’ve used it as fuel to build something meaningful and empowering, not only for myself but also for others.
Kitana’s passion for nails started early. Her creativity, attention to detail, and love for helping others feel confident naturally led her into the beauty industry. Watching her grow and flourish in her craft inspired me to create a space where both of us could thrive—together.
We opened The Modern Beauty Lounge with the goal of creating a welcoming, inclusive space where clients can feel beautiful, pampered, and seen. From nails and lashes to skincare and self-care, our business was built on love, strength, and the desire to uplift others.
Today, The Modern Beauty Lounge isn’t just a beauty salon—it’s a reflection of our bond, our resilience, and our shared dream. We’re so proud of how far we’ve come and excited for what’s still ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road—our journey has been full of ups, downs, lessons, and growth.
It took us countless tries, sacrifices, and late nights to get where we are today. Starting a business is never easy, but doing it while managing a chronic illness like fibromyalgia added an extra layer of difficulty. There were many days I was in pain or completely drained, but I kept pushing through because I believed in the vision Kitana and I shared.
There were moments of self-doubt, financial struggles, and times when we questioned if we were doing the right thing. But we kept going, learning from every challenge, and growing stronger as a team. Kitana, being young and passionate, had her own hurdles to overcome—building clientele, proving herself, and growing as an artist.
Despite all of it, we’ve never let the tough times stop us. Every obstacle has shaped us into the businesswomen we are today. We’ve come too far, worked too hard—and we will never look back.

At The Modern Beauty Lounge, we specialize in enhancing natural beauty with services like nails, brows, lashes, skincare, facials, and spray tans. Our mission is simple: to help every client feel confident, comfortable, and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors.
Kitana is known for her precise, creative nail work—especially her ability to bring trendy and timeless designs to life with a clean, professional finish. I focus on brows, skincare, and lashes, with a specialty in brow shaping, brow lamination, and natural lash enhancement. Our clients often say things like “Tracey saved my brows!” or “Kitana made my nails look better than the picture I showed her.”
We’re proud to say our work has been recognized—The Modern Beauty Lounge was named a finalist for Best Day Spa, Best Nail Salon, and Best Esthetician in our local reader’s choice awards. That recognition means the world to us, especially as a small, independently owned business run by a mother-daughter team.
What truly sets us apart is our story, our resilience, and the energy we bring to everything we do. We’ve built this from the ground up while navigating challenges most people never see. That’s why every client interaction, every service, and every detail matters to us.
We don’t just do beauty—we create an experience rooted in compassion, confidence, and connection.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What we love most about Inman, SC is the sense of community and support. Even as a small town, it’s full of heart. People here genuinely want to see each other grow and succeed. We’ve felt that firsthand since opening The Modern Beauty Lounge—so many locals have embraced us, shared kind words, and referred others our way. That kind of word-of-mouth support means everything to a small business like ours.
We also love that Inman is growing, but still holds on to its small-town charm. It’s a peaceful place to live and work, and we’re proud to be part of that growth.
What we like least? Probably the limited opportunities and resources for young creatives and entrepreneurs. There’s so much untapped talent in this area, and we’d love to see more platforms, events, or programs to help small business owners—especially in the beauty industry—get the exposure and education they need to thrive.
But overall, Inman has been a beautiful part of our story—and we’re thankful to be building our dream here.
