Life & Work with Sulondia “Sue-Ham” Hammond of South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sulondia “Sue-Ham” Hammond.

Sue-Ham, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has never followed one straight line. I’m a Marine veteran, mortgage broker, writer, producer, and entrepreneur, but the common thread through everything I do is helping people move forward.

My love for storytelling led me into theatre, where I began writing and producing stage plays. Theatre taught me how to create relatable characters, meaningful dialogue, and stories that reflect real life. I later expanded into film and vertical entertainment, including my series The List and the anthology Still Time for Love.

Alongside my creative work, I built a career in mortgage lending. As a mortgage broker, I educate people about homeownership, help them understand their financing options, and work to secure the financing they need to purchase, refinance, or invest in real estate; especially those who may have been overlooked or told no elsewhere.

Today, I bring all those worlds together through Sue-Ham Entertainment and my mortgage business, LoansWithSueHam.com. Whether I’m telling a story, sharing encouragement, helping someone obtain financing, or handing them the keys to a home, my mission is to educate, entertain, inspire, and create opportunities for others.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. In 2009, I filed for bankruptcy and had to rebuild my financial life. That experience was humbling, but it taught me that a financial setback does not have to define your future. It also helps me connect with mortgage clients who feel discouraged or believe homeownership is out of reach, because I understand what it means to rebuild.

Then, in 2020, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Facing cancer changed my perspective on life, tested my faith and strength, and reminded me that time is not promised. It made me more determined to use my gifts, pursue my purpose, and stop waiting for the “perfect” time to do the things God placed in my heart.

Professionally, I’ve also had to build multiple careers while showing people that I don’t have to fit into one box. In entertainment, I’ve created projects with limited budgets and resources while often serving as the writer, producer, marketer, promoter, and problem-solver. I’ve dealt with rejection, built an audience from the ground up, and had to believe in my vision before anyone else could see it.

The mortgage industry brings different challenges, including changing interest rates, strict lending guidelines, and helping people who may not initially qualify for financing. Sometimes the answer is not “no”, it is “not yet”, and I work to help clients create a realistic path forward.

Bankruptcy, cancer, rejection, and starting over could have stopped me, but they didn’t. Those experiences made me more resilient, compassionate, and determined to help other people believe that their current circumstances do not have to be the end of their story.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a mortgage broker, writer, producer, content creator, and the founder of Sue-Ham Entertainment. Although those roles may appear different, they are all connected by one mission: educating, entertaining, inspiring, and helping people move forward.

As a mortgage broker, I help homebuyers, homeowners, veterans, self-employed borrowers, and real estate investors understand and secure financing. I work with programs such as VA, FHA, conventional, USDA, down-payment assistance, and alternative financing options. I’m especially passionate about helping people who have been turned down or overlooked. I’m known for giving clients a “second look.” If someone cannot qualify today, I don’t simply tell them no, I explain what is holding them back and help them develop a realistic plan to become mortgage-ready.

Through Sue-Ham Entertainment, I write and produce stage plays, films, and vertical series, including The List and Still Time for Love. My work focuses on relatable characters, honest conversations, relationships, faith, second chances, and real-life situations. My theatre background has shaped the way I write dialogue and develop characters that make audiences say, “I know somebody just like that.”

What sets me apart is that I combine financial education with storytelling and entertainment. I understand what it means to rebuild financially, overcome serious health challenges, and continue pursuing a vision with limited resources. That lived experience allows me to connect with people without judging them or speaking over them.

I’m most proud of the impact behind the work. Whether someone receives the keys to a home, finds a path toward financing after being told no, sees themselves represented in one of my stories, or receives encouragement to keep going, I know the work has served a purpose. I don’t believe I have to choose between mortgages, entertainment, education, and inspiration, I’ve created a brand that brings them all together.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me in several ways. If you are looking to purchase a home, refinance, or invest in real estate, I can help you understand your options and secure the right financing. I also welcome referrals and partnerships with real estate agents, builders, attorneys, financial professionals, and anyone who knows someone who may need a second look at their mortgage situation.

Through Sue-Ham Entertainment, I’m open to collaborating with actors, filmmakers, producers, directors, videographers, musicians, businesses, sponsors, and other creatives who want to help bring meaningful stories to life. Businesses can support upcoming productions through sponsorships, locations, services, resources, and promotional partnerships.

Buddah Ratt and I are also launching a podcast focused on entertainment, education, community, highlighting businesses, and sharing positive people, stories, and information with the masses. We welcome potential guests, businesses, community leaders, sponsors, and collaborators who have something valuable and uplifting to share.

One of the simplest ways to support me is to watch, comment on, and share my content. Every view, referral, introduction, and share helps the work reach someone who may need the information, encouragement, or entertainment.
