Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Christi Wadford
Hi Shannon Christi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
HI, my name is Christi Wadford and I own a cottage bakery called Blueberry Crumble Bakery & Sweets in Lugoff, S.C. I spend my days working for the Kershaw County School District at Wateree Elementary where I am a Reading INterventionist and coach for our Girls on the Run program. I started creating unique cupcake flavors in 2018, as a sweet weekly pick me up for my teacher friends at school. Quickly, I started getting orders from school and then my information spread throughout our community and beyond.
I have been selling my cupcakes for 7 years now and I have recently added Crumbl style cookies, Gluten free sweets, jellies, jams and sour dough bread. I use social media as my advertising platform and I also vendor at a few Market day events throughout the year. After receiving my Safe Serve Certification and License, I have been asked to supply desserts to a few local restaurants and fresh Markets.
Blueberry Crumble Bakery & Sweets has catered for many local events, businesses, and charities to include the State House, Prisma Health, and WIS television station.
The unique menu features over 85 flavors and are packaged in boxes with handwritten messages on top from the baker.
Fun facts-
* I have several fruit tress in my yard that grow the fruits I use for baking
*I order flavorings directly from Hawaii -after a friend brought me Vanilla back from her honeymoon there
*I also sell PUPCAKES for dogs- Veterinarian approved in sweet potato or pumpkin
*I take special orders but also do theme boxes of mixed cupcakes-
The State fair box and The South Carolina History box were very popular. The State Fair boxes favorite flavor was The elephant ear featuring a friend elephant ear on top. The SC boxes Sweet tea and The peach enchilada.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our community has been so supportive, encouraging, and positive. It has certainly been hard to master my time and availability and learning to say the word “no” when I do not have time to accept a last minute order or request.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
People often ask me how I come up with such unique flavors. I always refer back to dyeing bridal shoes when I worked in a bridal shop while in college. I had to figure out what colors would go together to create a perfect match to fabric…I often say the shoe experience showed me how to creativity mix and match to find out what works together!
I try to add personal touches to my boxes.. birthday quotes, encouraging words, happy thoughts! I also feature pictures of my customers on my social media pages. The dogs enjoying birthday PupCakes are a favorite!
I think my creativity sets me apart- you give me a flavor and I can create it! I have made barbeque cupcakes with cornbread filling that was fantastic! I also love working with the sour dough bread and cinnamon rolls. I am an Old fashioned girl at heart and making homemade breads, jams, and jellies put me in my happy place.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is spending my days outdoors riding bikes, playing and digging in dirt, and playing kickball with my neighborhood friends until dark.
