Life & Work with Robin Wages of Conway South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Wages.

Hi Robin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Columbia SC to what I would call a hard family. It wasn’t long before I understood why I felt that way. When I was around the age of 14, I started having dreams about someone being molested. Then one day while sitting around outside I overheard family members talking about a cousin who was being molested by another family member and how the police had to get involved.
Within about two weeks I started having dreams of someone being molested. I assumed that it was my cousin however one day while wide awake I was able to see that it was me and my uncle who did it. The molestation happened once, when I was approx. 6 years old. I told my mother and she just stared. This was the beginning of me feeling unheard, unloved and unprotected. That moment stayed with e throughout my teenage years.

However, there were times that I spent time with my grandmother while my mom worked. The entire time I would get called heifer, hoe and or bitch. I never was called anything endearing or shown the love that would be expected for a child from her grandmother. She would pray long prayers at night but then raised hell all day. I hated that woman! I was confused about what real love looked like and finally gave up trying to figure it out. Something in me knew that what I was seeing and experiencing wasn’t right. Though it was normal in my family it seemed foreign to me. God was dealing with me, but I just didn’t know it at the time. Instead, I did what everyone else did; I found a boyfriend to distract me from what I was dealing with in my family.

I started dating trying to find love in all the wrong places and faces. I ended up getting raped by a man who I was engaged to all because I found out he was on drugs and decided to break it off. I was ashamed and never called the police because I put myself in that situation. I got over that by getting involved with another man to which I got pregnant. I found out that they guy that raped me left me with 3 sexually transmitted diseases to which cause complications for me and my daughter along with preeclampsia. When that relationship failed, I moved on to the next man whom I married only to find out he didn’t won’t to be a father to my daughter or my cousins whom I now had custody of. That marriage lasted 11 years before he divorced me. I signed the papers not asking for anything.
Then I married again figuring this time I would marry someone who wanted to build a life together because we both had nothing. I found out he was gay; he molested his own child and was committing robberies while I worked at the jail. It lasted 9 years and we divorced. However, we became friends and I took care of him for as long as I could.

One day I heard God say move to Myrtle Beach. I packed everything and moved down. Shortly after I started working in my church learning about God. I never saw the God I heard about in the people. I felt like I was suffocating with all the traditions. Nothing was ever being done to help those that were in need. I saw me in each person I encountered. I became what I didn’t see, I started Resurrected Life Christian Outreach Ministry where I went into the community feeding the homeless, making homeless bags, and praying for people whenever I was given the opportunity. God allowed me to financially pay for it. Since then, God gave me a ministry team that has changed over the years however, we were able to reach more as a team than I ever could by myself.
The Land of Goshen Transportation was created to make money for the ministry to where we could help with more donations such as light bills, car repairs, telephone bills, medication etc. I do this by Ubering! While in the car I’ve also ministered to, prayed for and met the needs of many who entered. We also donate rides to those who have legitimate appointments such as doctor’s appointments, grocery stores, DMV and or court appearances just to name a few.
I’ve also started Safe Haven using one room in my home to help someone that maybe in transition to a facility. (Short term) United way of Conway has endorsed The Land of Goshen and Safe Haven because they sometimes call needing our services. I started Training Ground church in my home as well to encourage those in their faith that may not go to a local church; however, it went online due to threats of robbing me. Safety first!

Finally, I wrote “Resurrection from Death to Life: A Memoir of my Journey to God” a book detailing all I went through for my healing first, but now to help anyone that may be going through something or have gone through something. I want to be help for someone that feels they are alone. I want to be hope for someone who feels hopeless. It gives real accounts of situations I have gone through. It’s filled with sex, profanity and scriptures and healing. A true depiction of the life of a Believer! How can we help anyone if we are afraid to be transparent. People will never know what God can do for them if we are afraid to say what He did for us. My book is in all of Horry County Public Libraries and all of Richland County Public Libraries. It has won Most Impactful Book of its Category Christian Autobiography/Biography and a Finalist for Most Impactful Book of the Year all from International Impact Book Awards.

My motto is “It doesn’t matter what you did or how long you’ve been in your situation, your faith will bring you through.” Every ministry and business created is a 501C3 nonprofit. Even 10%of each book sold goes to help someone. My life belongs to him, and every area of ministry is a direct representation of an area I myself suffered. We have started but the vision is great but through God and perseverance we will make a difference in the lives of our community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. The ministry has faced many challenges. One of the biggest challenges I believe is to find people who have God’s heart. People that are willing to sow their time and resources for the betterment of God’s people. I believe that we are called to build bridges not become an island. For bridges connect people, islands seclude and isolate. I believe God wants to work together in meeting the need of His people. This is why I became a Chaplain of Hope and also help others start ministries to accomplish God’s will anyway He chooses. We aren’t in competition.

The next obstacle is finances; everyone is having a hard time. Our goal is not to bring a hardship on the people but to be a blessing to them. So, we only help people that help themselves. There is too much fraud and waste. Every dime that is made comes from me spending time in that car driving. Therefore, I ensure that the donations go to where it’s needed. Even grants have been suspended. We do the best we can with what we have.

The 3rd thing is not having a place to operate outside of my home. We are limited in what we can do because my house is simply not big enough. I had to make some changes as to how we give the donations and the amount of the donations. We even give to other non-profits to help anyway we can. We are a small ministry but do what we can. I spoke with City Councilwoman Amanda Butler who said they were aware that there are no available properties for 501C3, However, they are in the process of acquiring space where we could operate but nothing is concrete yet. She will let us know if the deal goes through. So, we operate as usual until something opens up.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Pastor, Evangelist, Chaplin, Author and Founder, I specialize in loving people. This is done through encouragement, empowerment guiding, leading, strengthening and building them to their fullest potential by intentionality, discipline, faith.

I would say that I am known for my faith. honesty and Integrity. My faith has transformed my life in a way that I depend completely on it. Though there are people in my life I know that God has me even when things seem the hardest. Because I trust Him and depend on Him, I’m not swayed by people and or their opinions of me. I can be honest and speak truth to anyone anywhere and do. I am the one God would use to correct a leader respectfully. I remember, my pastor used to come to me when he wanted to know the truth about what was going on. He would always say ” You’ll tell the truth even if that truth gets you in trouble.” I believe that these are 3 important characteristics we all need to be successful in life I believe they are what define a man or woman.

I’m proud of the Ministry and Business that God has allowed me to build for Him. Every day it affects someone’s life for the better. I am also so proud of my ministry team, they are the reason we accomplish so much. We all are a part of different ministries but come together to help our community better. I love them and am hard on them, they understand that their lives have to be an illustration of what they are trying to get others to buy into. If they don’t see it, how can they follow it? We are God’s example of how to overcome. I love my ministry team, and we love the people we serve. Serving God’s people gives me purpose and a reason to keep going regardless of how tough things get.

God’s love sets us apart from everyone else because it’s not about the money, title, or position. It’s about giving hope to the hopeless which in turn will make our communities better and safer. My entire life is geared toward that goal.
