Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Corley.
Hi Ray, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started 5 years ago a friend of mine gave me tickets to a comedy show. Said the lady producing the show was looking for comedians. He told her I was funny and told me I should go. I went and ask the lady about it and she told me she wasn’t looking for any comedians but I should enjoy the show. So of course I was mad, but during the show she came to me and ask me did I have 3 minutes. At this time I was green. I didn’t even know what she was talking about but I told her give me that mic and I can make these people laugh. The host of the show told her give me a chance. I got up there and those 3 minutes changed my life forever..
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most definitely wasn’t a smooth road, after my first time on stage, I didn’t know what I was doing so I didn’t have any practice, didn’t know how to practice, didn’t know anything about how to get back on stage or nothing.
That same lady booked me again for a show 4 months later. I did 15 mins this time. And it opened up some doors. But it was still a struggle for me because the city I’m from had nothing of comedy there. Wasn’t a club, a mic or nothing. So I had to travel a hour away just for stage time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Im a entertainer, that specializes in comedy and I’m known for being able to take any subject matter and make it funny. and my stage presence. I’m most proud of my resilient way of always figuring it out even when the odds is against me. I somehow always find away. And what sets me apart from most people that do comedy is that I do it sober. Been sober for almost 10 years and doing comedy and entertainment for 5 years and being on this path this way has always let me be more observing than most.
What were you like growing up?
CLASS CLOWN for sure. I’ve always been adventurous and funny. Love to see people laugh and make people laugh.
And I never really had one set interest I found anything interesting if I could learn from it. I’m still that way til this day.
