Life & Work with Mindy Kuhn of Rock Hill, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Kuhn.

Hi Mindy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2016 I (Mindy Kuhn) acquired a publishing company and published a cookbook for Shonali Thomas who owns a catering/gourmet food business. The two became fast friends. Over the years to follow they would chat about their future business goals and discovered that they aligned. Mindy had a goal of a bookstore with a bar of some type and Shonali wanted a wine bar / restaurant. They noodled about how to put the two together and Corks, Cooks & Books was born! In the 5 years since opening they have tweaked the name a bit to showcase the food aspect as well. Now called CCB Bistro & Vine.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning a restaurant is never an easy road, especially in this environment. Since we opened at the end of Covid we have had to deal with food inflation costs and constant rent increases. But it makes it easier to handle because we are super fortunate to have an amazing team of folks to work with us.

About a year and a half ago we added a third partner, Chris Berry, to our team and are excited to have another head in the mix to bounce ideas off of.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a really eclectic mix of new books, interesting products and wine and food!! Shonali, the chef, has built a really interesting menu of small bites and larger entree choices. People are always commenting on the tastiness of the menu and the large portion sizes of the food. Our burger is really one of the best in town and we make our own steak sauce to top it!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We have some of the best people around!! We love our guests and are so grateful when they come back and bring their friends!!
