Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Truman.
Hi Meghan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Have you ever looked at an old family photo and felt like you were staring at yourself—not just in the shape of your eyes or smile, but in the way you held your babies or buttoned up their coats?
That moment came for me while helping my grandma go through generations of photographs. I saw the women who came before me loving their children in the same quiet, tender ways I do now. And I realized—motherhood is timeless.
That discovery lit a fire in me to document not just milestones, but the beautiful, fleeting rhythms of motherhood in a way that feels both authentic and lasting. Through a lot of trial and error, and with the help of a few great mentors, I’ve learned to record the soft unspoken ways a mother loves her children. I’ve been blessed to photograph families across multiple states, and look forward to continuing to grow in how to best tell the beautiful stories of families her in South Carolina.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the most tender and challenging parts of this journey has been learning how to grow a meaningful, thriving business while also being fully present in my own motherhood. I deeply believe in the value of documenting other families’ stories, but I also know my first calling is to my own family. Balancing the pull between creating for others and nurturing my little ones at home is a delicate dance—one I’m still learning the rhythm of. Some seasons require stepping back, others leaning in, but I try to make every choice with intention. Because at the heart of my work is a belief that time is sacred, fleeting, and worth honoring—both yours and mine.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
They say the days are long but the years are short—and nowhere is that more true than in motherhood.
I’m a motherhood and family photographer based in Murrells Inlet, SC, and I specialize in capturing the moments that slip by too quickly: sandy toddler toes, dimpled baby hands, the way your teenager leans in just a little during a hug. These are the details that make up your family story—and my passion is artfully honoring that story with timeless, light-filled imagery.
I’m known for creating photographs that feel like memories—authentic, emotional, and steeped in nostalgia. My sessions are gentle and unrushed, designed to help you feel fully present with the people you love. Whether you’re holding your newborn or letting go of your senior, I’m here to preserve the in-between moments that matter most.
What sets me apart is the heart I bring to every session. I don’t just want to capture how your family looks—I want to show you how deeply you’re loved and how beautiful your legacy truly is.
Because one day, your children and grandchildren will hold these images and say, “This is how it felt to be loved by you.”
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the photography industry embracing more meaningful, and less posed images. I see myself growing both as an artist and a mother—deepening my understanding of the love, complexity, and tenderness found in each stage of motherhood. That growth will shape the way I photograph others, allowing me to create work that is even more heartfelt and connected.
