Hi Mayra , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career in the corporate world, working for large companies in finance and then cybersecurity. At first, I was enthusiastic and eager to climb the corporate ladder. The roles always offered stability and a clear career path, which seemed ideal at the time. However, as the years went by, I found myself increasingly dissatisfied. The long hours, high pressure, and often monotonous tasks began to take a toll on me and my health.
Despite the professional success I was achieving, I felt a growing sense of unhappiness and lack of fulfillment. This dissatisfaction began to manifest physically. I started experiencing health issues, including having heart surgery in 2023 and a stroke in February. It became clear 3 days after my heart surgery – that something needed to change.
Recognizing that my well-being had to take priority, I decided to take a bold step. I left my corporate job and took some time to reflect on what I truly wanted in life. During this period, I focused on my health, adopting a more balanced lifestyle and exploring activities that brought me joy and satisfaction. I came across the chance to buy a boutique and own my own business.
Through this journey of self-discovery, I found my passion. It wasn’t an easy transition, but it was incredibly rewarding. I retrained, sought mentorship, and gradually built a new career that aligned with my values and passions.
Today, I am proud to say that I am healthier, happier, and more fulfilled than I ever was in the corporate world. My journey taught me the importance of listening to oneself and prioritizing well-being over conventional success. It was a transformative experience that reshaped my career and life for the better.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Transitioning from a stable corporate job to a completely new field came with its fair share of challenges.
The financial uncertainty of leaving a well-paying job meant facing financial instability. There were moments when I questioned whether I had made the right decision, especially during the early stages when income was uncertain and inconsistent.
Entering a new field required acquiring new skills and knowledge. This was both exciting and daunting. I had to invest a lot of time and effort into learning and often found myself doubting my abilities.
Building a Network was difficult as well. In the corporate world, I had an established network. Starting fresh meant I had to build new relationships and connections from the ground up. This took time and required stepping out of my comfort zone.
and of course, the external Doubts and Criticism: Not everyone understood or supported my decision to leave a secure job. Dealing with skepticism and criticism from others was challenging. It took resilience to stay focused on my goals despite the naysayers.
Despite these struggles, each challenge taught me valuable lessons and contributed to my growth. The road may have been rocky, but every obstacle reinforced my determination and ultimately led to a more fulfilling and balanced life.

My boutique is known for its unique, high-quality offerings and personalized customer service.
My primary focus is on curating and creating products that are not only beautiful but also tell a story. I We have gained a reputation for our distinctive and exclusive collections that can’t be found anywhere else. I keep our buying to a very small amount. Our customers appreciate the personal touch we bring to their shopping experience, whether it’s through custom orders, personalized styling advice, or hosting community events that bring people together.
One of my proudest achievements is establishing strong relationships with both our customers and our suppliers. I’ve worked hard to create a boutique that feels like a community hub, where people can find unique pieces that resonate with them personally. Additionally, I’m proud of how we’ve been able to support local artisans and contribute to sustainable fashion practices.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played a significant role in both my life and business, in ways both positive and challenging. There have been moments when I was in the right place at the right time. For example, finding the perfect location for my boutique happened almost by chance. I was a customer, and I came in to shop and saw the previous owner had passed away. I was sad because I loved the store so much.
On a personal level, dealing with health issues while managing a business is very tough. It felt like bad luck to face significant health problems just as I was starting out. However, it also pushed me to prioritize my well-being and find a balance that was sustainable in the long term. but it’s been my response to these lucky or unlucky moments that has shaped my journey. Embracing good luck with gratitude and facing bad luck with resilience and creativity has allowed me to grow personally and professionally.
