Life & Work with Mak Cochran of Dillon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mak Cochran.

Hi Mak, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We(Mak and Tristen) met at a party through a mutual friend of ours. We almost immediately became friends with each other due to our shared passion of music and started playing covers in my (Mak) bedroom of our favorite bands like Nirvana, Deftones, and System Of A Down. One day we eventually said “why don’t we make our own music” and that is how Trailer started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With us being so young and not having much responsibility other than school and work we have considered ourselves lucky because not many other people in bands have as much time as we do. Our biggest problems we faced was trying to obtain an audience in such a small town that is dominated by genres of music that are very different than our own, and with that comes struggling to find gigs due to no one wanting to book a heavier band, as well as learning how to produce music properly as we have had no experience in that department. Luckily we met a producer from a family member who goes by the name B.O.A.N.E who has helped us learn a lot more about production and now produces most of our songs. Eventually we decided to start posting videos of our music as well as skits and starting the stunt we are probably most well known for which is our wall which we write all people who like, comment, and follow down on it as an attempt to have Warped Tour notice us and let us play there, as well as us planning on just showing up to the parking lot of the Warped Tour stop in Orlando and playing there as well. This has been the main thing that garnered the current audience we have and we are not stopping anytime soon until we play Warped Tour officially, and even beyond that milestone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are of course mostly known for our music. What we are most proud of is how fast we have grown in only about 6 months of having music out and that we have found a crowd for our type of music despite coming from a place which does not have a big crowd for it. One thing I believe sets us apart from others is the influences of our music being vastly different compared to other bands in our scene. One of the things Rock/Metal has lost nowadays is it’s roughness and edge. Everything now is overproduced and compressed and simply sounds like pop music with distorted guitars, and many bands are simply carbon copies of each others with no personality or soul. We don’t claim to be the best songwriters, but we do put our personality and soul into every song we make.

What are your plans for the future?
Releasing more music, growing our fanbase, and playing more shows is what we are always looking to do. We have a lot of fans across the country and world who are always asking to see us. We would love to play for them as soon as we can, and put on the best show we can for the ones who can see us.
