Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexi Pearson
Hi Lexi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember – the place I felt I was the best version of myself was on the back of a horse. From age 4, I could be found at a local barn in Massachusetts as often as possible, assisting with whatever chores needed to be completed for a little extra saddle time. There were years of hard work, sweat, tears and broken hearts but if horses teach you anything, it is about grit, determination and a little luck. I knew early on that training horses was not going to be the avenue I pursued, but I hoped that someday, working with horses would find it’s way back to me.
Fast forward to 2018 and I had a devastating riding injury. I fractured my tibia and fibula and had a rod and screws placed in the leg to fix. I was six months away from being married and due to the nature of the fracture, I was frightened I may never be able to compete at the level I once was. I worked tirelessly at physical therapy but just couldn’t seem to get the ankle mobility I once had and still had some version of a limp for months post injury.
I had a friend call regarding a new technology she was utilizing in her naturopathic practice called PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field Therapy). I will be honest, I did little research and just prayed for a miracle.
A miracle is what I received. I worked with a local chiropractor in Lexington, SC three times a week and the results that these PEMF sessions provided me with were amazing. I could visibly see swelling and scar tissue reducing and I was able to complete such a wider range of exercises through my PT. I even sat back on a horse and got to go for a trail ride.
Ten months post injury, my mind was clear, I was back riding and I began to thoroughly research what I consider my miracle during this dark time. I found that PEMF was an upcoming modality in the equine industry and it was used for a wide range of things such as show preparation, recovery, rehab and overall health and longevity of the horse. I was instantly drawn in and so began Positive Pulse Therapy, PEMF LLC.
We opened in April 2019 and have been running full tilt ever since. PEMF is a gentle magnetic pulse that sends specific magnetic charges to your cells to return them to their optimal state so they can work at their most efficient. When you are tired, sore, injured, etc. your cells are depleted of what they need to help bring you back to your optimal state and heal. PEMF restores your cells, allowing them to work efficiently and effectively and get you back. Specific things that we target include soreness, muscle fatigue, nerve damage, pain, inflammation and any type of injury.
Primarily, PPT works with horses, traveling to our clients farms or offering haul-in’s and rehab board at our primary location in Swansea, SC but we do have a small subset of human clients as well. We also make monthly trips to KY to serve our Kentucky client base. Positive Pulse has renewed my passion for working with equine athletes and has brought such incredible people and animals into my life. I am thankful everyday for each opportunity my yellow box provides me with.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Embarking on any new adventure is never a smooth road and I think obstacles are expected. The most important factor is how you are able to handle those obstacles and how you can turn each obstacle into an opportunity. The biggest struggle I had was learning how to differentiate myself, meet new clients and build my business. I have never been and I continue to preach that I am not a salesperson. I cannot walk into a room full of people, start chatting with people and gain new customers. What I am passionate about, is showing people how PEMF can make a difference in their lives and in the lives of their beloved equines.
This prompted to realize that instead of trying to turn myself into something I wasn’t, I let the power of PEMF do the talking. I organized a document of targeted local barns and reached out to specific horse owners, trainers and barn managers offering free demonstrations for themselves and their clientele. I would perform a mini session on a horse of their choice that I have never met before, talking through what a normal session would look like, what I am looking for and why the horse is reacting the way they are. I would also bring my human chair and allow each person who attended to sit in the chair for 5 minutes and see for themselves how it feels and what their horses experience. I would always then offer a discounted first session for all attendees and from there I build a solid client base. When you provide people an experience, it is something they can return too and something they can build off of. I still see majority of those clients that I had within my first year to this day. They have changed horses, barns and locations but continue to see the benefits my service can offer and refer these services to others they may see struggling.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Positive Pulse Therapy is set apart by our drive to do what is best for the client (whether it is horse, human, hound or anything else !). I have been at a barn at 3 AM to ensure these horses are feeling their absolute best prior to hitting the arena. I have also stayed late for hours to help a client and their veterinarian work through a colic episode. There is nothing that goes further than truly caring for those that you support and I can say with the utmost confidence that I truly care about the animals and their owners that I serve. I am blessed to know that there are a large number of horses and people who are better off today because I was a part of their lives and that is what keeps me motivated and keeps driving me towards being the best I can be.
What’s next?
I have currently expanded to include a practitioner in Aiken, SC and a practitioner in Lugoff, SC to ensure that all of our clients can be served in a timely manner. I would love to expand our offerings to ensure that while we are working with the horses, we can potentially offer additional modalities that couple well with PEMF. The most important thing I will always keep in touch with, I always want to be an expert in my field. Expertise does take time and experience so there will be lots of training and testing prior to adding anything additional.
With that, as my children grow older and become more involved in school, etc. I would love to grow and expand my rehab facility at my home, allowing more horses to come and engage in top notch care that allows them to get back to their jobs stronger and sooner.
