Hi LaShonda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the insurance industry began after spending more than 20 years working in healthcare. During that time, I noticed a common issue — so many individuals didn’t truly understand their insurance coverage. They had questions, confusion, and frustration, yet as much as I wanted to help, I was limited by time and circumstance. I was working on someone else’s clock, not my own, and I knew deep down that people deserved more than rushed explanations.
That realization inspired me to create something different — a business centered around educating and empowering individuals to understand their insurance. I’ve always believed that if you’re paying for something every month, you should fully understand what it covers and how it works.
Fast forward to 2022, I made the decision to take my insurance licensing exam and officially step into this new chapter. By May 2022, I earned my license, and by August of that year, I began working in the field as a licensed agent. My last corporate position was as a claims analyst, where I spent seven years with one of the same insurance companies I’m now proudly contracted with. That experience gave me a deeper understanding of the system from the inside — and it continues to help me better serve the people I meet today.
Now, more than three years into my business, I can honestly say I love what I do. Like any profession, it has its ups and downs, but it allows me to be who I truly am — someone who enjoys helping people make sense of their benefits, navigate their plans, and feel confident in their coverage.
I work one-on-one with clients, conduct presentations for organizations, and set up in communities to bring awareness about annual insurance changes. Whether I’m explaining benefits, assisting with plan transitions, or helping someone through a frustrating situation, my goal is always the same — to make insurance clear, simple, and approachable.
I also take pride in encouraging healthy living and inspiring individuals to make informed decisions about their well-being. When people understand their coverage, they feel more in control of their health and their choices — and that’s the kind of empowerment I strive to bring every day.
I share the good, the bad, and everything in between because I believe in transparency and education. My passion is helping individuals not only understand their insurance but feel confident enough to use it wisely. This journey has reminded me that knowledge truly is power — and I’m grateful to share that power with every person I meet.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey hasn’t come without its challenges. Adjusting to being a new business owner required me to shift from a corporate mindset to an entrepreneurial mindset. I had to learn how to manage my time, structure my days, and stay disciplined — even when things didn’t go as planned. Setting daily goals, staying organized, and becoming creative and strategic in my approach were all necessary to keep my business growing and evolving.
Another major learning curve was developing patience and understanding when working with individuals from all walks of life — each with unique personalities, financial circumstances, and health challenges. Sometimes it meant knowing when to take a step back, breathe, and return to a situation with fresh eyes and compassion. Those experiences have strengthened my ability to connect, listen, and truly meet people where they are.
Financial uncertainty and self-doubt were also part of the process, especially in the early stages of building something new. But I’ve learned that growth comes through consistency, faith, and community. One of the greatest blessings in this journey has been being part of an amazing organization that offers tremendous support — uplifting, inspiring, and empowering me to keep pushing forward. Having a strong support system truly makes all the difference when transitioning from the corporate world into entrepreneurship.
Looking back now, I can honestly say that every challenge helped shape the professional I am today. This business allows me to be myself — someone who genuinely cares about helping others understand their insurance benefits, navigate confusing plans, and feel confident in their decisions. I offer personalized insurance consultations, where I take the time to explain benefits in a way that’s easy to grasp. Whether it’s Medicare, Marketplace, or private coverage, I walk each client through their options, assist with plan comparisons and enrollments, and help them understand how to maximize their benefits. I also work directly with employees, community organizations, and local groups, conducting educational sessions that highlight the importance of knowing what’s covered, what’s not, and how different insurance programs work together.
What I’m most known for is my personalized and compassionate approach. I take pride in simplifying complex topics and creating a comfortable space where people can ask questions without judgment. I also encourage healthy living by discussing preventive care, wellness programs, and ways to make the most of available health resources.
What truly sets me apart is my background and my “why.” With over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field and a former role as a claims analyst for a major insurance company, I understand insurance from both sides — the administrative and the personal. I’m also proud of the relationships I’ve built within the community. What I’m most proud of is seeing the relief and confidence that people gain after we speak. When a client says, “I finally understand my insurance,” or “You made that make sense for the first time,” it reaffirms my purpose. This work allows me to live out my passion for helping others — not just by providing coverage, but by restoring trust and understanding in a system that often feels overwhelming.

The qualities I feel are most important to success are compassion, integrity, patience, and resilience. Compassion allows me to truly connect with people and understand their needs. Patience helps me navigate challenges and meet individuals where they are, while resilience keeps me focused and grounded through change.
