Life & Work with Katie Barnett of Greer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Barnett.

Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Greer Church of God has been a cornerstone in the community since 1935.

There have been many anointed preachers that have led the church. Pastor Randy Barnett took over as the pastor in March of 2024. Pastor Randy previously pastored for 10 years in Travelers Rest. God opened a door for him at Greer and it’s been an amazing opportunity.
Randy and his wife, Katie, who is a school teacher at Christ Episcopal School, are highly involved in many aspects of the church. They love seeing their six kids actively involved in the ministry as well. Their son, Rody, helps run audio and visual. Their 13 year old son is the summer in the praise team. And their daughters are active in the youth and children’s groups at church.

Greer Church of God seeks to impact their community through the power of the gospel, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the love of Christ!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When Pastor Barnett took over, the church was definitely hurting. With a fresh vision and passion, Pastor Barnett and their leadership team have done amazing things in the community.

We’ve hired a children’s pastor, a youth pastor, and have praise and worship members.

We’ve started providing free meals every Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. to be followed by adult Bible study, children’s Bible study and youth group.

The church now has dedicated audio visual team members who have started a webpage to help others be informed and also provides a streamed lined way to listen to pastor’s sermons.

The church also helped to raise several thousand dollars to help children in our congregation and community to have a better Christmas.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Jesus left us with work to do…to fulfill the Great Commission. We believe that in order to do that, it has to first start in our own hearts.

Success is not the number of people in the pews or membership in the church but rather success is defined by the amount of hearts that are set on fire for the gospel. One heart completely on fire for Jesus will impact more people than 20 hearts who are complacent.

We want to see our church and community impacted through the gospel and life changing presence of the Holy Spirit.
