Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Bohnert
Hi Kasey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has always been something that I was involved in from a young age, from watching my grandmother paint to taking art classes after school and doodling whenever I could – so it was an “easy” choice for me to follow that path. I was fortunate to have a family that supported that passion and I realized in college that everyone was not that lucky. One of the most pivotal classes I took was with Louise Fili (which I’m pretty sure I begged to be in) and it was there where I fell in love with packaging. I was fascinated that you could bring something to life and every single little detail of it would have an impact on someone else’s experience. That product wouldn’t get deleted like an email, it would sway someone to bring it into their home, or give it as a gift for someone else’s. After college, I worked on design teams ranging from home textiles to bath & beauty products to food and it gave me the chance to build a background of knowledge and inspiration from all different industries.
Most days my mind is buzzing with ideas, so freelancing and starting my own business was a way for me to create even more. In late 2024, I founded RAD CO., a space for design projects of all sizes, where I listen closely to clients’ ideas and capture the vision while creating a meaningful connection between the brand and the audience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest struggles has been finding a healthy work-life balance, which can easily become blurred as a creative. Art becomes such a huge part of your everyday life, from the clothes you wear to how you decorate your space. Even when you love what you do, I’ve learned how crucial it is to pause and recharge to gain clarity on where to focus your energy to keep creating.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My specialty is definitely in packaging design. I love being able to think through and design with the customer’s interaction with the product in mind. Typically my design style tends to lean towards a clean aesthetic, bringing in neutrals while experimenting with color theory to add strategic pops of color. I really enjoy working with small or new businesses where I can help shape the brand’s overall look and feel across various touch points, from logo creation to packaging and broader art direction. On the other hand, it’s also a fun challenge creating unique assets for established brands while staying true to their identity.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
One major lesson I learned during Covid was the importance of setting work boundaries and gaining clarity about what truly matters in life. It’s easy to get caught up in the fear of diving into new ideas, but being stuck indoors pushed me to explore them. I used art as an outlet, trying new mediums like embroidery and even revisited printmaking.
