Life & Work with Jenny Jimenez-Sullivan of Myrtle Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Jimenez-Sullivan.

Hi Jenny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been writing since I was a child and have kept a journal most all of my life. I grew up in a Latino family where creativity wasn’t necessarily encouraged and have had a difficult parent relationship since then. These challenges caused me to doubt my talents and internalize most all of my thoughts, which was heavy for a child and young adult. This is where writing, journaling and poetry became a tool to help me through my feelings, trauma and navigating the hard stuff. I taught in the public school systems in Connecticut for 20 years where I helped students find their passions, navigate the college application process, essays and all that is entailed in graduating and starting life post high school. In 2016, I looked at all that I was pouring into my students and my own children and knew it was time to go more public with my writing. I started my blog – Eveything I’ve Wanted to be on WordPress and fell back in love with writing. In 2019, my husband and I decided it was time to follow our dreams, after raising 3 sons. We sold our home in CT and moved to Myrtle Beach, SC. The beach is my happy place. It’s where I feel most connected and at peace. This is when I really started pouring myself fully into my writing and what I wanted to do in this second half of my life. In 2023, I turned 50 and began what I called my Season Of Yes! I started saying Yes to things I was a little afraid of and areas that I have wanted to pursue but was hesitant to. In July 2024, I launched the All In MY Head Podcast, which to me is an extension of my writing & deep thoughts, but also a place where I could uplift others in their callings & purpose. As my audience grew, so did my desire to support fellow creatives—leading to the creation of The Podcasters Playbook: Essential Steps for New Creators and The Podcasters Playbook Pt 2 – Elevate Your Craft. These are OLLI courses @ CCU designed to help aspiring podcasters (ages 50+) find their voice. In October 2024, I created The Plotting Parlor Writers Club, to empower Writers in the Myrtle Beach area and offer support with monthly meetings, feedback, skill development, resource sharing, guest speakers and fun nature outings that foster inspiration and connection. I am also the Founder and Chief Empowerment Officer of my own publishing company – Whimsical Wanderers Press LLC. I have created 2 journals on Amazon KDP to support mental health, mindfulness and writing as a wellness tool. I am currently working on self publishing my 1st book of Poetry that is a journey through trauma and resiliency. I know that my purpose is to hold space for others who have felt they have no voice so that they can feel seen and heard. This is what my Podcast and writing is all about – giving a voice to the voiceless and breaking cycles.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. I would say I was my own worst enemy. I held myself back and questioned my talents. Through lots of therapy and journaling I learned to quiet the inner critic (which was never really my voice to begin with) and pursue the areas that made me happiest. This season of my life has been about breaking generational curses, not allowing others to define me, boundaries, doing things that make me happy and following my heart. Life hasn’t been the easiest for me, but everything I have gone through has been for a reason and it has made me who I am. I know this is what I have to offer the world. My stories are other peoples stories too. It’s a space where we can all relate to one another.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a storyteller, poet, writer and eternal daydreamer with a passion for evoking emotion. My writing blends heart, humor, pain and humanity, often exploring themes of identity, trauma, connection, and resilience.
A lifelong lover of books, I grew up with my nose in novels and a notebook always within reach. I believe in the power of stories to heal, challenge, and transform—and I strive to write the kind of poetry, blogs and books that feel like a conversation between old friends. That is my superpower! To be able to connect with people deeply and relate on a personal level is what sets me apart from others. My heart and humanity in storytelling offer comfort, in a world that feels like it’s spinning out of control.
I am the Founder & Chief Empowerment Officer of Whimsical Wanderers Press LLC., The Plotting Parlor Writers Club, Creator & Instructor for OLLIs Podcaster Playbook courses, the Creator and Host of the popular podcast All In My Head. All In My Head is my proudest professional achievment to date, but
I am also presently working on publishing my 1st book of Poetry, which is a journey through trauma and resiliencey. I have 4 other books in the works and currently have 2 journals published on Amazon KDP; the Gratitude Journal and the Mind Unwind Journal. These are all my newest babies, so I am proud of them all! I am also proud that I am able to use my journey in life, through trauma and my voice to inspire and uplift others who may feel alone like I did.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Insight Timer is my daily ritual for starting my day in a space of mindfulness and meditation. I then, take time to journal at different points in the day.

I follow alot of amazing writers and creatives on Instagram, use Canva to help with book creation and attend local and online writing workshops and courses. I have a wonderful group of friends and family that support me in everything I do specifically my husband, sons and their wives and partners are my biggest cheerleaders.
