Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Say What
Hi Jenna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
10years ago I was made aware that we had comic cons in our area. When I went, I had so much fun I had decided to get into sewing. At the time I was HORRIBLE at sewing and was able to (after a few attempts) make a Ms. Marvel cosplay. I started my education at YouTube U, absorbing all crafting and trying my hand at different things. There was a big learning curve as I wasn’t crafty to begin with so it took years of practice, tears, and asking for help to get to where I am today
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never a smooth road. There is a big learning curve for people like me that don’t have a crafty bone in their body. I had to painstakingly learn each thing. Eventually I was able to train my brain into being more crafty. Eventually I got good enough to recreate each Harley look (Birds of Prey) from grainy pics from passersby. I was almost exact in my recreations when they finally dropped stills. I had taught myself to be eagle eyed, which helped me in my day to day!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have become a sort of jack of all trades by this point, which honestly is the beauty in cosplay. I’d say I’m most proud of my original characters, I have 12 of them. All with complete back stories. I got pretty known on tiktok for them. I’d say what sets me apart is definitely those characters, especially Queen Kasdeya aka Vampmom. She reached so many out there that needed a mother figure and she just filled that role. She was initially going to be a scary character and that wasn’t what she ended up being. She ended up healing others while also healing me.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I wish I didn’t care so much what others think. It’s hard to retrain that brain, especially when you may have to remind it every 10mins that you are living life for you and no one else. I think my fear of not being liked caused me to hold myself back in both cosplay and life. That’s my biggest advice to anyone period. A LOT of people don’t start out cosplay BECAUSE of those fears of rejection.
