Life & Work with Jenkins Peeler of Due West, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenkins Peeler

Hi Jenkins, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up with an older sister, a younger brother and a younger sister so I never lacked being entertained. But I noticed early on that I was interested in different things than them. You could find me in front of our family computer 9/10 times during the day always trying to learn something new, whether it be magic tricks, how play an instrument, or even how to solve a Rubik’s cube. But the one phase I seemed to never outgrow was wanting to make videos on the internet and my love for movies and superheroes. When TikTok was introduced I was very hesitant to join but when COVID came around I found myself bored out of my mind and gave in. Watching people talk about the things I was interested made be believe that there were so many people that were like me. So, I started making content 4 years ago and honestly all I wanted to do was build a community around all the nerdy stuff I love: superheroes, movies, comics. It started as funny little sketches and slowly transitioned into fun facts, news, theories, and reviews of newer films. In the summer of 2022 it was announced that one of my favorite superheroes, Blue Beetle, was getting a movie and I saw this as an opportunity. Nobody knew this character like I did. I started pumping out videos talking about the character and the upcoming film and slowly became pretty close friends with the director, Angel Manuel Soto, and the main actor, Xolo Mariduena. When the film finally premiered I was invited to the “blue” carpet in LA to be the first to see the film. Ever since then I have continued to grow in so many ways: a community of people, invites to Netflix, AppleTV, and Warner Bros events, and even signed with an agency (Genii). It all started with a nerdy little kid who just wanted to find people who were interested in the things he was. I can wait to see where else this takes me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Coming up with ideas is the hardest part about this job. You have to make things you want to make but also it has to be something that other people want to see and balancing those two are pretty difficult. There is also the threat of the TikTok ban which was obviously very scary for people like me who got their start on that platform and earn their living on there.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been making TikToks for around 4 years now about movies, superheroes, and comics.
