Life & Work with Jason Kendall of Columbia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Kendall.

Hi Jason, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Jason Kendall’s journey began with a deep love for storytelling, design, and the power of authentic visual communication. As the founder and creative force behind kendallprojects Media & Design, he built his career around creating media that not only looks good but means something—work rooted in community, culture, and human experience. What started as a small independent design and production studio in Columbia, South Carolina, grew into a full-fledged creative house producing films, branding, and multimedia campaigns for clients who value story over spectacle.
Through kendallprojects, Jason began merging his design background with cinematic storytelling—especially in sports and community-based narratives. His focus naturally gravitated toward football, a space where character, perseverance, and legacy intersect in powerful, visual ways. This led to the creation of UNDERESTIMATED: A Lower Richland Football Story, an independently produced documentary series capturing the heart and soul of a small-town South Carolina team determined to reclaim its legacy.
The series is more than a sports film—it’s a reflection of everything Jason and kendallprojects stand for: resilience, faith, and storytelling that uplifts real people. Built entirely through grassroots partnerships, local sponsorships, and a community-driven production model, UNDERESTIMATED represents the culmination of Jason’s creative evolution—from designer to filmmaker to documentarian—telling stories that not only entertain but inspire change and honor where they come from.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most independent creatives, my path has been defined by persistence, faith, and learning to create impact with limited resources. Building kendallprojects Media & Design from the ground up meant doing a lot with a little—wearing every hat from creative director to camera operator to editor. There were times when projects stalled because of funding, equipment limitations, or the simple reality of trying to grow a creative business while maintaining artistic integrity.
When it came to filmmaking, especially with a project as ambitious as UNDERESTIMATED, the challenges only grew. Producing a documentary series independently—without studio backing or major sponsors at first—required not just skill, but community trust. Convincing people to believe in a vision before they could see it was one of the biggest hurdles. There were long nights, missed opportunities, and moments where progress came one small step at a time.
But through it all, I leaned on creativity, collaboration, and faith. Each obstacle became fuel for innovation, and every setback revealed the importance of staying authentic. The struggles shaped not only his storytelling style but also the identity of kendallprojects itself—proving that even when the road isn’t smooth, the story is always worth telling.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At kendallprojects Media & Design, I built a creative studio centered on storytelling with purpose. The company specializes in documentary filmmaking, brand storytelling, and visual design that bridges culture, community, and emotion. Whether it’s a local business trying to connect with its audience or a high school football team fighting to reclaim its identity, Jason’s work finds the human heartbeat inside every story.
Best known for my ability to blend cinematic visuals with authentic narrative depth—creating content that looks beautiful but, more importantly, feels real. My signature lies in how I approach a subjects: not as projects, but as people. That’s most evident in UNDERESTIMATED: A Lower Richland Football Story, a raw and inspiring documentary series that captures the pride, struggle, and redemption of a small-town football program in Hopkins, South Carolina.

My work spans from cinematic documentaries and branded storytelling to creative campaigns that help schools, athletes, and small businesses find their authentic voice through media.
While the UNDERESTIMATED series is one of his most recognizable projects, my portfolio extends far beyond it. I’ve led visual campaigns and film projects for local schools and athletic programs, produced short documentaries and social content focused on community impact, and developed branding and marketing strategies for businesses and non-profits looking to tell stories that matter.
Through kendallprojects Media & Design, I have helped launch athlete-led content series, coach-centered storytelling initiatives, and small business identity campaigns—all anchored in real emotion and cinematic quality. His projects often explore themes of legacy, perseverance, and transformation, whether it’s a football team redefining its culture or a business reintroducing itself to the world.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to move seamlessly between creative disciplines. He brings the eye of a designer, the heart of a storyteller, and the discipline of a filmmaker—creating visual experiences that are both inspiring and strategic.
From concept to camera to post-production, my proudest achievement isn’t just one project—it’s the consistent ability to turn every story, no matter how small, into something that feels big and deeply human.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing stories come to life that genuinely mean something to people. I find joy in the process—those quiet, behind-the-scenes moments when an idea becomes real, when a young athlete opens up on camera for the first time, or when a community sees itself reflected honestly through my work.
My happiness doesn’t come from fame or recognition—it comes from impact. When someone watches one of my films or sees a piece of media I’ve produced through kendallprojects Media & Design and says, “That’s us. That’s our story,” that’s the moment that matters most.
I’m happiest when creativity becomes connection—when design, film, and storytelling unite to uplift others, restore pride, or spark change. Whether it’s collaborating with coaches, mentoring young creators, or helping small businesses tell their story authentically, I find purpose in using my gifts to serve.
At the end of the day, what makes me happy is knowing that every project—big or small—has the power to move someone, inspire a community, and remind people that their stories are worth being told.
