Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Goshorn.
Hi Holly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was in high school, I was always the one who brought a camera to gatherings. It was a hobby, but I never imagined it would become a full-time career. After graduating from high school in 2010, I took a film photography class at Greenville Tech, where I learned the basic skills of photography. Fast forward 4 years, I was newly married with a newborn baby; this is when my whole world changed, in more ways than one. My husband bought me my first camera so I’d have one for documenting my son’s life, and as I began posting on social media, I had people reach out asking me to do their family photos. About a year later, in 2015, I became a licensed business, and my little hobby started to get busy. After adding another 2 sons to our family, I started getting into wedding photography, and in 2018, my business kicked into a full-time career. Now I’ve photographed over 200 weddings and am a part of my family’s business (Aurora Farms Event Venue), where I get to do my dream job!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a very smooth ride, but it went from 0 to 100 so fast! As a result, I lost a significant amount of family time with my kids over the weekends. That has always been my struggle because my family is the most important thing to me!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in wedding and portrait photography, wedding photography being what I’m most known for. I’m most proud of my ability to provide for my family and get to work with my parents and twin sister inside of Aurora Farms. It truly is such a joy!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Good luck – it has been a gift to be able to have such a flexible schedule, allowing me to stay at home with my boys in the early years, allowing my husband to be a stay-at-home dad during COVID, and now having a thriving business!
