Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Shanice.
Hi Devin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a passion for hair from a very young age, much of which was inspired by my mother. She always took great care of my hair and even took the time to read books to better understand how to care for Black hair.
Before entering the beauty industry, I spent over six years in corporate America and earned my business degree in 2016. I later followed my true passion and graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Greenville in 2019. I spent the first five years of my career working in a salon suite, where I gained invaluable experience and built a strong foundation.
While I loved that chapter, I always dreamed of owning my own salon. In April 2025, that dream became a reality when I opened the doors to my own salon, Remedy’s Beauty Bar, which I named after my daughter, Remedy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles was transitioning from working in my business to working on my business. Managing finances, setting boundaries, creating policies, and making tough decisions all came with a learning curve.
There were moments of uncertainty, long days, and times when I had to push through fear and self-doubt. Building a space that aligned with my vision while also being sustainable was challenging, especially navigating growth, consistency, and trusting the process. However, every obstacle taught me valuable lessons, strengthened my resilience, and reminded me why I started. Those challenges ultimately shaped me into a stronger business owner and leader.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do everything that deals with caring for the hair that grew from your scalp naturally. Silk Press, Flat Twist, Two Strand Twist, Natural Updos, Perm & Flexi Rods, loc Retwist, and more. I specialize in growing healthy hair for all hair types and this is also what I’m know for. I’m most proud of the book of clients that I’ve been blessed with. They trust me 100% and they continue to come even though they’ve learned how to care for their own hair. What sets me apart from most is the fact that I don’t do hair for the money. It’s nice but I truly love transforming my clients and making them fall in love with their natural hair and providing a safe space where they can vent and relax. Also, that I treat my clients how I like for my stylist to treat me.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by the peace you feel with yourself, your life, and the people around you.
