Life & Work with Destiny Ruth of Columbia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Ruth.

Hi Destiny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started with a love for photography at a young age, always creating scrapbooks out of my photos. Once in college, I pursued my passion, but found myself graduating during Covid. After meeting my husband through our church, we got married and moved to the area, where I was able to expand on my love for photography and grow my business. Now, I am so grateful that I get to share God through all my weddings, events, and sessions.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. Like in any job there will be ups and downs. Photography has low and high times during each year and it really matters how you go through those times. The first year took some adjustment, but I’m very thankful that in this current time things are going really well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I absolutely love weddings! They are my favorite thing to capture, getting to catch each detail and weave it back together frame by frame in a gallery for my clients to relive their day is a dream.

I specialize in true to color images that capture the posed and unposed moments. . I also, have a more editorial approach when it comes to posing my clients. I want you to feel like the model you are!

I am proud of each image I have taken. It sounds cheesy, but it is true. Young me would be so happy to see future us doing this, so now each time I get to capture peoples individual stories, I am just delighted to be the one capturing it.

I think what sets me apart is me. In a society that is constantly trying the new thing or the new trend, I tend to stick with the moment. When capturing people’s stories, I like to be in the background watching everything unfold and capturing the small details that may be missed and the large details as they are.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My grandfather’s horses. I didn’t know him for long, but each Sunday we would go up to his farm and after lunch, we would get to go to the barn. I watched him tack, saddle, and brush one of the horses. Then he would let us ride the sweet white mare named Angle along the driveway. Will always be a core memory.
