Life & Work with Chelsea England of Columbia, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea England.

Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I purchased my first camera in 2019, initially shooting travel content simply out of my passion for traveling. Eventually a close friend asked me to photograph their wedding. I shot that first wedding for $300, thinking it would be a one-time experience —but to my surprise, the inquiries started rolling in for engagement sessions and weddings. I quickly fell in love with it! Everything just took off from there!

Now, six years later, I’m grateful to be doing what I love full-time. It’s truly been a dream come true.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As a completely self-taught photographer, one of my biggest challenges was navigating the business side of my work. I felt confident in my ability to shoot and edit, but building and managing a successful business required a lot of research, trial and error, and learning from experienced photographers in my community! It’s been a rewarding journey of growth and development. I’m so thankful to those who helped me along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a destination wedding and elopement photographer! I get the privilege of capturing love stories in the most stunning locations—Mexico, Hawaii, Scotland and Utah are just a few of my favorites so far! My love for travel aligns perfectly with my work, allowing me the incredible opportunity to document heartfelt moments across the country. It’s a true privilege to combine my passion for storytelling and travel in such a meaningful way.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Surprisingly, I found myself thriving during COVID-19. A time that was understandably challenging for so many. A lot of couples shifted toward elopements and smaller ceremonies. While the pandemic significantly impacted the wedding industry as a whole—particularly in the luxury and large-scale event space—I was fortunate that the pivot towards smaller & more intimate celebrations aligned closely with my niche. It was a unique and unexpected period of growth in my business.
