Hi Chantell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into entrepreneurship started with a desire to build something meaningful while helping people protect what matters most in their lives. I began my career in the insurance industry where I gained firsthand experience working with individuals and families who needed guidance navigating their coverage options. That experience showed me how important it is for people to truly understand their insurance and feel confident about the protection they have in place.
After gaining experience in the field, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own agency, CKS Insurance Group. I wanted to create a company that focused on education, trust, and long-term relationships with clients. My goal has always been to simplify insurance and help people make smart decisions about life, health, auto, and home coverage so they can protect their families and their future.
Like many entrepreneurs, building a business comes with challenges, but those experiences have strengthened my commitment to what I do. Every step of the journey has been about growth, learning, and creating something that truly serves the community.
Today, I continue to grow CKS Insurance Group, working to expand our reach while staying focused on the mission of helping clients make confident and informed insurance decisions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges early in my career was balancing entrepreneurship while being a single parent. At the same time, I entered a very competitive, high-pressure sales industry that has traditionally been male-dominated. That environment required resilience, confidence, and the willingness to keep pushing forward even when things felt overwhelming.
Working in insurance and financial services also carries a lot of responsibility. You’re not just selling a product—you’re helping people make important financial decisions that can affect their families for years to come. Because of that, I had to spend a lot of time studying my craft, learning the products, and gaining the knowledge necessary to properly guide clients. Many nights were spent meeting with clients after hours or continuing to educate myself so I could truly serve people the right way.
Later in my journey, when I got married, my husband recognized the value of the work I was doing and encouraged me to build something of my own. His support helped give me the confidence to take the next step and pursue owning my own agency. That encouragement played a big role in my decision to move forward and build my own business.
Looking back, those challenges helped shape who I am today. They taught me perseverance, discipline, and the importance of building something meaningful—not just for myself, but for the people and families I serve.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner of CKS Insurance Group, an independent insurance agency focused on helping individuals, families, and small business owners protect what matters most. My work centers around guiding clients through important financial protection decisions, including life insurance, health coverage, auto insurance, and home insurance.
One of the things I specialize in is helping people truly understand their coverage. Insurance can often feel confusing or overwhelming, and many people don’t realize what they have—or what they may be missing—until it’s too late. My approach is centered around education, transparency, and helping clients make informed decisions that protect their families and long-term financial future.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building and growing my own agency. Recently, I expanded my team by bringing on five new agents focused on life and health insurance, along with a property and casualty agent who specializes in auto and home coverage. As the agency continues to grow, I am also looking to bring on additional agents who are interested in building a long-term career in the insurance industry or licensed agents who are ready for a new opportunity and a different approach to growing their business.
What sets my work apart is my commitment to relationships and service. I believe insurance shouldn’t just be about selling policies—it should be about educating clients, building trust, and helping people feel confident that their future is protected.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest in my work is the opportunity to truly help people in my community. Many individuals and families don’t fully understand insurance or the protection it can provide. Being able to educate clients about services and financial protection products—and seeing the relief or gratitude on their faces when they finally understand their options—is incredibly rewarding. Some of my happiest moments are when clients say, “Thank you, no one has ever explained this to me before.” Knowing that I helped someone make a better decision for their family’s future means everything to me.
Another thing that brings me joy is helping other agents grow in their careers. As I build my agency, I enjoy mentoring and supporting agents who want to succeed in this industry. Seeing them gain confidence, develop their skills, and achieve their goals is something I’m very proud of.
Most importantly, my children and grandson inspire me every day. It means a lot to know that they see me working hard, serving our community, and making a difference in people’s lives. Being able to show them that their mother and grandmother is helping others while building something meaningful is one of the greatest sources of happiness for me.
