Life & Work with Casey Breitenbach of Upstate SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Breitenbach

Hi Casey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a teenager I worked in a local furniture store and loved helping builders and designers decorate and stage Showcase homes. I went on to Spartanburg Community College and got a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology but did not like the hours behind a desk required in that field. I got started in real estate after working with my father-in-law Danny who was a builder, on picking out finishes for the homes he built. I was able to customize and design each homes paint, tile, lighting, etc. I have always loved houses. He encouraged me to get my license because why should he pay someone else that commission.
My dad, Dwayne, also an entrepreneur was also in the same realm of work doing grading for new construction. Weekends and anytime in the car on the way to something would consist of stopping by and going to look at grading jobs and roaming through houses under construction.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No not smooth at all. 2008-11 was very hard times when the market shifted and it cost more to pay the real estate dues than I was making. My husband Seth followed his Dad footsteps into residential building as well. At that point in time we had 2 small children and had no other choice to find other work. I was able to clean homes for new construction and homeowners and Seth had to find other work as well. I placed my license on inactive status and eventually was able to get back in with another couple who owned a brokerage and construction company several years later. This allowed me to get my time in to sit for the Brokers exam to pave the way to own my own company.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Brighten Real Estate Group is my own real estate company that I am now Broker-in-Charge. We serve clients locally and from afar that are moving in from other states. Helping people through the biggest transaction of their life is something that we do not take lightly. The first time homebuyer joy is unmatched!
In addition to helping people sell and buy we also own a rental management company (ARC Rentals) named with my kids initials (Amy Rae and Cody). Both kids help us with our businesses when not involved in school or sports. We help other investors who want to own but not deal with the day in day out of the business.

Seth (my husband) also builds residential homes and investment properties. Whether it is a custom home, spec home, or duplex/townhome investment property he is very good at what he does and being very transparent in the process.

If that wasn’t enough I renovated and fixed up an old building to be my office and also use the space as an event center for locals to use and have birthday parties, baby showers, meetings, etc. It is a blank slate for the public to use and decorate their own theme for their event rented at an hourly rate. We can host a small gathering of approximately 50 people. It is call The Bright Spot of Chesnee.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yes most definitely a risk taker. It makes you feel alive and place all your trust in the Lord that he knows the outcome. At 20 I went skydiving with my friends. That is probably the craziest thing I have done physically other than growing up flying with my grandfather in his ultralight. The big risks now are letting my teenagers drive and those types of worries that come with parenting.
After losing my father-in-law and another family member close to us we realized that life is very short and the time is now to make moves whether it be an investment purchase, other type of decision, or even a vacation. “Do it fast” is a little voice in my head when making decisions….most of the time Seth comes to me with an idea…and if the research makes sense on paper then “let’s do it”!
