Yolanda, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Skyler M Style & Wellness, a lifestyle brand, during one of the hardest seasons of my life. I had just lost my job, was managing type 2 diabetes, and was shut in during the pandemic. Around that same time, I also lost my dog, Skyler, who had been my companion for 14 years. In that season of loss, God reminded me of my love for fashion and creativity, and how both could bring healing. What began as a way to care for myself became a mission to help other women 40 and over look good, feel supported, and live well from the inside out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Balancing a full-time job while building Skyler M Style & Wellness has tested my faith and discipline. Raising capital has also been one of the hardest parts. There were times I had ideas ready to go but had to wait for the resources to bring them to life. Still, every challenge has pushed me to grow, stay focused on purpose, and trust that what’s meant for me will come.
