Nikki, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After turning 40, I found it difficult to find clothes that worked for me. My lifestyle had begun to change, my likes and dislikes were changing, and my fashion needs were different than before. Shopping was difficult because everything in the stores was geared to women much younger or much older. Conversations with friends and family members let me know that there were so many women with the same struggle. I began to really study fashion – not only what was visually appealing, but the textures, color analysis, silhouettes, and movement that all played a part in why an outfit worked or didn’t work for me. I also started following some celebrity stylists and learned how to put together outfits conveying confidence. I realized that it wasn’t only celebrities who could benefit from the services a stylist offered. What about the everyday woman who has reached the next level of her life and now wants to take her style to the next level, but isn’t sure how or where to start? I began posting outfit of the day’s on social media and listing the places where I found each piece I was wearing. These were not orchestrated outfits that I simply put on for a post or photo. These were the outfits I was actually wearing to work, to a restaurant, to a party I was actually attending. Women began asking me questions about styling a particular skirt or top or how to accessorize a dress, and I answered them all, but realized it would be so much more effective if I could figure out a more organized way to help these women. So I started my personal styling business, Next Level Styled, for the everyday woman who wants to take her style to a new level. My business can be in person or virtual. I help them determine the colors, styles, and silhouettes that flatter them most and make them feel confident.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest struggle is helping people understand exactly what it is that I do. When they hear the word “stylist” they think only in terms of celebrities or famous women who need a glamorous wardrobe. My client is the woman who has just changed careers or has gotten a promotion and needs a few new outfits for her new position, or the woman going on vacation and wants some flattering beachwear, or the woman who simply wants to level up her style to compliment where she is in life at the moment. A personal stylist is like your own fashion confidant and wardrobe expert. My role is to help women over 40 discover styles, colors, and fits that enhance their natural beauty and reflect their unique personality. Whether they are updating their look, navigating wardrobe transitions, or preparing for a special event, a personal stylist provides personalized guidance tailored to their body shape, lifestyle, and preferences. I assess my client’s current wardrobe, identify pieces that work for her, and suggest new items that complement her style. I also offer practical advice on how to mix and match clothes, choose flattering silhouettes, and incorporate trends in a way that feels authentic. Ultimately, I can help women feel confident, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish—at any age.
