Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Hamilton.
Hi Lee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from Clemson University in 2008 and started looking for a job during a recession. I found work but, not a career. While spending time with a friend who sold real estate, I became interested in that field. We spent a lot of time outdoors and he seemed to have a fairly flexible schedule which was highly attractive to me. During one of our morning outings, he made a call to his brokerage where the pre-licensing course was being offered. I was signed up for the course and in short order I was back in school briefly and a licensed real estate agent shortly thereafter. The first couple of years were tough, even for experienced real estate agents. I was with a local, boutique brokerage and focused my efforts hyper-locally in my hometown, Rock Hill, SC. With a lack of clients, I spent my time volunteering for local events, charities, and service projects. I made connections and rarely said no to any opportunity to be involved. After making it through a few lean years, it became easier and more lucrative. I spent 8 years at that brokerage and really built my business. In 2018 I moved to a larger brokerage and, along with my partners, started The Home Team at Allen Tate REALTORS. We’ve grown to a team 10 and are now one of the highest producing teams in York County, where we largely focus our efforts.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After a slow and grinding start to my real estate career, things have been consistent since. My business has followed the natural ebbs and flows of the market as it reaches peaks as well as valleys, but the foundation has been strong enough to maintain enough business to meet my goals. There’s never time to hit cruise control for long, but with steady and focused efforts, maintaining and growing my business and my Team has been a labor of love.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started The Home Team with three partners in 2018 and it has grown to 10 members and we are at the top of our market in production. I specialize in residential real estate sales in York County. While I am more than capable of and have sold many commercial properties and tracts of land, I focus on residential sales as it is what I know and enjoy best. While I also do sell in other areas outside of York County, I find a more localized approach allows me to be more competent in that area and to provide better service to my clients here. I am most proud of the brand I created and have built to the levels it has reached. The Home Team is my company as well as a passion project for me and everyone on the Team. We’ve created an environment where we can all help and support one another in business as well as personally, while also achieving our professional goals. I’m proud of creating a brand where we can all have success financially as well as personally. Our Team’s value proposition is that we have the strength of a large team, but provide individual service to each client. We say we are big enough to matter and small enough to care.
What were you like growing up?
I think like most people growing up, I only wanted to do what i liked to do. That hasn’t changed much. Fortunately, real estate allows for a lot of flexibility. Of course, there’s a lot of hours of work and many clients to take care of and there are times when work must be done. On the other hand, with good time management, time can be carved out to travel, explore, entertain, and otherwise chase passions outside of real estate. I’ve always loved to be outside and see what’s around the next twist in the trail or bend in the river. Sometimes those can overlap with the job when viewing or listing tracts of land and sometimes an early morning hike can still allow for time to see a sunrise and still be back to work by typical business hours
