Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsea Ruch.
Kelsea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in corporate America on the business operations side, working across industries from product development to tech, learning from the leaders I supported along the way. But even early on, I always knew I was meant to build something of my own. I’ve always been deeply drawn to creating meaningful experiences for people and naturally found success in roles centered around connection, hospitality, and care.
When I discovered head spas, something instantly clicked for me. It felt like the perfect intersection of my personal values: connection, experience, and education. After experiencing a head spa myself, I recognized a major gap in the market and immediately thought, “Greenville is going to love this.”
At the time, wellness was becoming a much bigger conversation, but there still weren’t many spaces where people felt truly cared for in a deeper, more intentional way. I wanted to create an environment where guests could fully exhale. Somewhere grounding, luxurious, calming, and restorative, but also genuinely helpful.
I launched Solace Flow Head Spa in August 2023. By December, we were seeing clients, and within two months, I was fully booked a year out with a 3,000-person waitlist. What started in a tiny 100-square-foot room quickly grew into a 2,000-square-foot space and a team of nine.
But early on, I realized I didn’t want Solace Flow to only be known for relaxation. I wanted us to provide real long-term value to our clients. So many guests were coming in struggling with scalp irritation, buildup, hair thinning, inflammation, or concerns they felt dismissed elsewhere. That’s what led me back to school to study trichology, which bridges the gap between cosmetology and dermatology. I wanted our guests to leave not only feeling restored, but educated and empowered with a better understanding of their scalp and hair health.
Today, that mission continues to shape everything we do at Solace Flow. We’ve built a business centered around human connection, nervous system care, education, and creating experiences people genuinely remember. Watching something that started as an idea grow into a team, a community, and a movement people deeply connect with has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! From the outside looking in, rapid growth can seem glamorous, but there were a lot of challenges behind the scenes. I went from being a solo business owner in a tiny room to managing a fast-growing company, a larger team, and a much bigger operation almost overnight. There’s no real handbook for that. I was learning in real time while trying to protect the quality of the experience and the integrity of the brand we were building.
There were also a lot of personal sacrifices that came with that growth. Long hours, constant pressure, financial risk, decision fatigue, and trying to carry the emotional weight of both the business and the people within it. At the same time, I was navigating major personal changes in my life, which forced me to grow not only as a business owner, but as a person.
One of the biggest challenges has honestly been learning how to scale something that feels deeply personal without losing what made people connect to it in the first place. When your business is rooted in human experience and care, you can’t just copy and paste that into a larger operation. You have to intentionally build systems, culture, training, and values around it.
I’ve also had to learn that leadership is far less about control and far more about communication, resilience, and adaptability. There have been mistakes, hard conversations, burnout moments, and periods where I questioned myself. But every challenge sharpened my vision and made the business stronger.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change any of it. The difficult seasons taught me more than the easy ones ever could.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Solace Flow Head Spa?
Solace Flow Head Spa is a luxury head spa and scalp wellness studio rooted in trichology, nervous system care, and intentional human connection. While many people initially discover us because of the relaxing, sensory side of the experience, what truly sets us apart is the depth behind what we do. We bridge the gap between relaxation and real scalp education.
Every service is designed to be both restorative and purposeful. We specialize in scalp wellness, scalp analysis, buildup and irritation concerns, oily or dry scalp conditions, hair thinning support, and creating customized experiences that help guests better understand their scalp and hair health. At the same time, we’ve created an environment where people can truly slow down, disconnect from the chaos of life for a minute, and feel genuinely cared for.
What makes Solace Flow different is how personal it is to me. Even the design of the space itself was inspired by one of my favorite places in the world—Tulum. I wanted it to feel earthy, grounding, calming, and transportive from the second you walk in. The limewash walls, natural textures, warm lighting, greenery, music, scent… every detail was intentionally chosen to create a feeling. I wanted people to walk in and immediately exhale.
I’m also incredibly proud that we helped introduce and normalize the head spa concept in the Upstate at a time when most people had never even heard of it. What started in a tiny room has grown into a full team and a space that people travel to experience, which still feels surreal to me sometimes.
But beyond the aesthetics and relaxation, I really wanted Solace Flow to have substance. Early on, I realized so many people were struggling with scalp issues, hair thinning, inflammation, buildup, or concerns they felt dismissed about elsewhere. That’s what pushed me to study trichology so we could provide more education and long-term support alongside the experience itself.
I think people connect with Solace Flow because it doesn’t feel manufactured or corporate. It feels human. Everything about the brand was built by me with intention, and I think guests can feel that when they’re here.
Any big plans?
Honestly, I feel like we’re still at the very beginning of what Solace Flow could become. One of my biggest goals moving forward is continuing to bring more awareness to scalp health and help raise the standard within the beauty industry. There’s such a huge gap in education around the scalp, hair loss, inflammation, and overall hair wellness, and I’m really passionate about helping change that.
I’m excited to continue expanding the trichology side of the business and bringing in more advanced services that actually help people long term, not just temporarily make them feel good. The relaxation and experience side of Solace Flow will always be a huge part of who we are, but I also want people to leave feeling educated, understood, and supported.
I’m also really excited to continue training and mentoring other beauty professionals. Watching other providers become more confident, knowledgeable, and intentional with their work has honestly become one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey for me.
As a whole, I want Solace Flow to continue becoming a space people deeply connect with. Somewhere that feels restorative, grounding, and human in a world that’s constantly overstimulating and disconnected. We’re always evolving, creating, and dreaming up new ways to make the experience even more meaningful.
