Hi Jaquan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Jaquan Horlback, and I grew up here in the Lowcountry. I’m 25 years old and passionate about baking. My journey began last year when I started experimenting in the kitchen. One day, I brought some of my creations to work, and to my surprise, everyone loved them. The more I shared, the more people wanted. That encouragement inspired me to step out on faith. First with cupcakes, pound cakes, and more—and eventually to officially launch my own baking business after leaving the Air Force.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This journey hasn’t been easy. Building a steady clientele has been a challenge, and business has been a bit inconsistent. However, I’m determined to keep pushing forward because I believe that my hard work will pay off.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
love engaging with my customers and making sure every bite is as delicious as it should be. I’m especially known for my banana pudding and cookies—favorites like peach cobbler cookies and s’mores cookies are always a hit. When it comes to cupcakes, the strawberry and my red velvet stuffed Oreo are customer favorites.
What makes me most proud is seeing returning clients place new orders. Their continued support is what keeps me motivated and inspires me to keep striving.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
