Inspiring Conversations with Jamie Fleming of Edify

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Fleming.

Hi Jamie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sure. My journey into storytelling started long before Edify had a name. I’ve always believed in the power of stories to shift perspectives, preserve culture, and spark change — especially in communities that are often overlooked or misrepresented. For years, I worked in creative media, creating digital content business, nonprofits, churches, and community organizations. But over time, I saw a deeper need — not just for content, but for meaningful, strategic storytelling that could move people to action.

That’s when the idea for Edify came into focus. I wanted to create a company that didn’t just tell stories, but curated them — carefully, intentionally, with heart and purpose. We started small, working with local nonprofits in Beaufort, South Carolina, helping them translate their missions into visual narratives that connected with people. From there, we expanded into mixed reality experiences and educational storytelling, especially for museums and cultural spaces.

It hasn’t always been smooth — like any startup, we’ve had to figure things out as we go. But the vision has always stayed the same: to use story as a tool for transformation. Edify exists to amplify the work of those who are already making a difference, and to make sure their stories are heard, remembered, and felt.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road — but I think that’s where the good stuff happens. Starting Edify meant stepping out with a clear vision but limited resources. We weren’t backed by big investors, just fueled by purpose and passion. As we are still a new company, having just formed in March of this year, I still wear many hats — filmmaker, marketer, grant writer, even tech support. That kind of stretch forces you to get real clear on your “why.”

One of the biggest challenges has been educating people on the value of storytelling — not just as something nice to have, but as a strategic asset. Some organizations know their work is powerful but struggle to articulate it visually. Others didn’t think they had a story worth telling. So part of the work early on was convincing people that their narrative matters — and that how it’s told can impact everything from fundraising to community engagement.

There were also personal challenges — balancing family, managing burnout, and learning how to lead a growing vision without losing myself in the hustle. But those moments, as tough as they were, have shaped Edify into what it is today: resilient, rooted, and purpose-driven.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Edify?
Edify is currently comprised of myself and our Brand Manager, Chris Thompson. We specialize in crafting stories that create change. We work primarily with nonprofits, cultural institutions, and community-based organizations to produce cinematic films and immersive experiences. Whether it’s a short documentary, a campaign video, or an interactive exhibit, our goal is the same — to help mission-driven organizations connect emotionally with their audiences and move them to action.

What sets us apart is how deeply we listen before we create. We don’t just show up with a camera — we show up with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to honoring the story. We curate every project with intention, blending high-quality production with cultural sensitivity and strategic messaging. It’s part filmmaking, part impact design.

One thing I’m really proud of is that we’re building this from the ground up in the Lowcountry — not in L.A., not in Atlanta — but right here in Beaufort, SC. And we’re doing it in a way that’s elevating voices that are too often left out of the mainstream narrative. That matters to me.

If there’s one thing I’d want your readers to know about Edify, it’s that we’re more than a media company. We’re a storytelling partner for organizations that are doing real, meaningful work. Whether you’re trying to raise awareness, raise funds, or just make people feel something — we help you tell that story in a way that resonates, lasts, and leads to change.

How do you define success?
For me, success isn’t just about revenue or recognition — it’s about impact. If the stories we tell help someone feel seen, help an organization gain the support it needs, or preserve a piece of culture that might otherwise be lost — that’s success.

I want Edify to grow and be sustainable — but not at the cost of purpose. At the end of the day, if our work helps create understanding, empathy, or change — even in small ways — we’re doing what we’re meant to do.
