Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacy Painter Kelly.
Hi Jacy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working for a builder and a developer out of college, and quickly realized I preferred being on the other side – representing the client. I have had the privilege of working for myself (Jacy Painter Kelly Interiors), and along side a partner, Kerri Robusto (431 Designs), for the past 13 years. I have focused primarily on residential projects, but have dipped my toe into commercial work and truly enjoy that, and those challenges, as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it has or has not been a smooth road, but more so that it’s been a drive through the mountains – haha! There are up’s and down’s in any career. I think the biggest struggles have been issues related to the pandemic on supply chains and having to react and re-direct. I always want people to be happy, and my clients are my biggest advertisement, so I have learned to manage expectations better and to compartmentalize “work” time and “personal” time. Clients take this process very personally, because it’s their HOME, but it’s also my job. Maintaining those boundaries can get tricky and is something I have definitely had to work on.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jacy Painter Kelly Interiors?
I am an Interior Designer out of Fort Mill, SC specializing in both new construction and existing home design. I am a bit “edgier” than most local Designers and work with lighting a good bit. I truly believe a space should function well for each client, not just look pretty, so I try to bring form together with function. In the past I have used black and white a lot more than bold color, and really love using texture as a focal point. My clientele tends to be middle-of-the-road, pretty normal and relatable people with a more casual vibe. I really place value in having a plan. Even if you can’t do everything in the first pass, I’d prefer you leave with a plan in place for the next phase. I am really proud of the network of clients I have built over the past 13 years. Some are on their 3rd homes with me – the fact that they keep calling me makes me really proud of my work.
How do you think about luck?
I think luck has played a large role, and I am lucky in life, but I don’t put a ton of emphasis on luck in general. I think hard work pays and I think doing the right thing by people gives you good karma and good karma brings the “good luck”. I try to do the right thing by people and hope that keeps the negativity away!
