Inspiring Conversations with Grecia Huerta of Visit La Mesa CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Grecia Huerta.

Hi Grecia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Visit La Mesa started almost seven years ago from a genuine love for the community. At the time, I saw so much potential in La Mesa its small businesses, local events, beautiful neighborhoods, and the people who make the city feel special but I felt there wasn’t one dedicated place bringing all of those stories together.

With my background in social media and marketing, I decided to create Visit La Mesa as a way to highlight local businesses, share community events, and help residents discover more of what was happening in their own backyard. I didn’t begin with a big business plan or funding. I simply wanted to support the community I loved. For nearly seven years, I built and managed the page every growth has been organic. No boosted ads no paid Ads it has been all community based growth.

Over time, Visit La Mesa grew organically into a trusted local resource with a following of nearly 12,000 people. What began as a passion project led to opportunities I never expected, including being featured on Fox 5 and receiving recognition from the mayor. But the most meaningful part has always been hearing from business owners who gained new customers because someone discovered them through the page, or from residents who attended an event they otherwise would not have known about.

Today, I’m ready to take Visit La Mesa to the next level. My goal is to expand beyond simply sharing information and create more original videos, business features, interviews, community guides, and professional marketing campaigns that showcase not only the Village, but all of La Mesa. I want Visit La Mesa to continue connecting residents while helping our local businesses grow and thrive.

Looking back, I’m proud that something I started simply because I loved my community has grown into a platform that can make a real difference. Visit La Mesa is more than a social media page to me it is my way of celebrating the people, businesses, and stories that make La Mesa feel like home.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You know what? I wish I had a dramatic story to share, but the truth is that it has been a surprisingly smooth and rewarding journey. The La Mesa community has supported Visit La Mesa CA from day one, and that has been truly incredible.

Of course, building and managing the platform independently while providing the service at no cost at times has required a great deal of time, consistency, and personal commitment. But whenever the workload felt challenging, the encouragement from residents and local business owners reminded me why I started.

The community has embraced the page, shared the content, recommended local businesses, and trusted me to tell their stories. That support has made every bit of effort worthwhile. I feel incredibly fortunate because Visit La Mesa CA would not be what it is today without the people of La Mesa behind it.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe the most important qualities behind my success have been authenticity, consistency, and remembering the purpose behind the platform. For nearly six years, most people didn’t even know who ran Visit La Mesa. I never posted photos of myself or made myself the focus because the page was never meant to be about me it was truly about the local businesses, the people, and the community.

As business owners, we all experience good days, difficult days, exciting wins, and moments of doubt. Staying consistent and continuing to tell meaningful stories, even during the challenging seasons, is incredibly important. People connect with what is genuine, and I believe they can feel when someone truly cares.

Visit La Mesa grew because the mission always came first. My goal was simply to help local businesses feel seen and to keep the community connected. That authenticity allowed me to build something even more valuable than a large following: trust.
