Inspiring Conversations with Gavriel J of Bungies House Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gavriel J

Hi Gavriel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey started with a deep love for music and sound. From a young age, I was drawn to the creative and technical aspects of audio engineering. I spent years honing my craft, eventually earning my Avid Pro Tools certification while attending Berklee College of Music in 2018. Over the past 15 years, I’ve worked extensively in music production, film, and marketing, building a reputation for quality and professionalism. My expertise has gained me credits working with established talents such as: J COLE, The Hamiltones, John P. Kee, Miranda Curtis, Melvin Crispell III, DJ Prince Ice, No Limit Larry, BenieBeatz, Imani Wiley English, Ian Michael and many more.

For over 10 years, I ran Bungies House Studio just outside Uptown Charlotte, NC, providing a space for artists to develop and refine their sound. In 2024, I made the pivotal decision to relocate to Columbia, SC, aiming to contribute to the local creative scene and offer more opportunities to upcoming artists and engineers.

Alongside my wife, Courtney J, who has a background in interior and architectural design, we’ve built a professional artist development and mastery space that caters to musicians, radio broadcasters, and filmmakers. Bungies House Studio is more than just a recording space—it’s a hub for creativity, mentorship, and growth.

We also believe in giving back and fostering the next generation of creatives. That’s why we’re launching a Youth Academy Program in Summer 2025 for ages 6-12, teaching songwriting, music composition, reading music, and audio engineering. Additionally, we offer mentorship and internship training programs for aspiring audio engineers looking to break into the industry.

Today, Bungies House Studio stands as a marketing studio company dedicated to delivering high-quality, catered experiences for our clients. My mission remains the same—to empower artists and creatives through professional sound, mentorship, and innovation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—growth never is. My journey has been filled with challenges, but each one has shaped me into the artist, engineer, and entrepreneur I am today.

Early on, I spent years grinding in the industry without major breakthroughs. I faced doubt from others, including business partners, managers, and even people close to me, who didn’t believe I’d make it. That’s what inspired the name YDMBSM (You Doubted Me But I Still Made It).

One of the biggest struggles was navigating setbacks in my personal life. In 2019, I went through a difficult time that led to jail time and the separation of my first marriage. I also experienced deep personal losses, losing my brother to gun violence in 2019 and my sister to heart failure in 2021. These moments tested my faith and forced me to rebuild, both personally and professionally.

Building Bungies House Studio was another uphill battle. For over 10 years in Charlotte, NC, I worked tirelessly to make the studio a respected creative hub. But moving the business to Columbia, SC meant starting fresh—rebuilding a client base, networking in a new market, and proving myself all over again.

On top of all that, balancing business with personal growth hasn’t been easy. As a certified Pro Tools engineer from Berklee College of Music, I’m always striving for excellence. Now, while running the studio, I’m also pursuing a BS in Information Technology at WGU, which means constantly pushing myself to learn and evolve.

Despite the struggles, every obstacle has reinforced my mission. Bungies House Studio isn’t just about making music—it’s about mentorship, development, and building a legacy. That’s why we’re committed to offering mentorship programs, internships for up-and-coming engineers, and launching a Youth Academy in 2025 to train the next generation.

The road hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. Every challenge has strengthened my faith, refined my vision, and proven that I was built for this.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bungies House Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for beginners is to stay consistent, keep learning, and build real relationships in the industry. Master your craft, invest in yourself, and treat your passion like a business by understanding contracts, branding, and marketing. Most importantly, keep God at the center of your journey—through every challenge and setback, my faith in Jesus Christ the Son whom i refer to as Yeshua the Messiah has given me the strength, resilience, and purpose to keep going, and I believe that when you trust in our Father above, He will make a way for your success.
