Inspiring Conversations with Emanuel Page of Diamond Cut Tattoo Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emanuel Page.

Hi Emanuel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I got here is a long story so I’ll try to be brief. I have been an artist all my life. I wanted to be a tattooer since maybe the age of 12. Im 44 now. I started tattooing professionally in 2006. I moved to Columbia from the Washington, D.C. area in 1998. Finished hs at RNE, got accepted into the Art Institute of Philadelphia but my folks didn’t think I would make a living being an artist. With that I attended SCSU for 3 yrs then I dropped out. The corporate world wasn’t for me. From there I worked oddjobs all over the city. My wife bought me a tattoo machine and I practiced for a while on pig skin, then myself, then family and friends. I wasn’t satisfied with my learning experience so when tattooing became legal here I sought an apprenticeship. That didn’t come easy so I managed to put together a shop that is still in operation. That shop wasn’t mine so from there I got a working apprenticeship at 5 points custom back when it was on greene st. Worked there and learned as much as possible until I made enough money to open a shop of my own. Since 2014 I have been the proud owner of the Diamond Cut Tattoo Company

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road was rough! From discrimination in my industry to discrimination based on my experience as a tattoo artist and the institutions that govern our licensure. It took me 14 months to open. The process is usually 3 months! I dare not scream it was racism but more exclusionary collaboration between certain shops.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a small customer oriented tattoo shop that has been providing affordable body art since 2014! Our artists create on multiple mediums so we display our paintings throughout the shop. We’ve partnered with local charitable organizations to do our part in the soda city. We specialize in tattooing every style there is with each artist having their own unique style. What sets us a part is that we’re an shop full of talented black artists. I am most proud of the fact that almost all of the artists in our roster have been friends of mine for over 15 years and are a part of my original crew….
Each artist at Diamond Cut Tattoo Company works directly with clients to create body art based on their input, but also provides guidance and artistic vision for the process. We believe you should pick an artist based on how their style fits your unique needs.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
