Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Joe DuPuy.
Hi Dr. Joe, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I broke my back playing college football in 2000. My older brother John was in Chiropractic school at the time had encouraged me to visit him to get help. After a few adjustments during that visit my health did a 180. I’ve been on a journey ever since striving understand how the body works and heals itself. I’ve been blessed to find amazing mentors and coaches who have helped me understand more on healing physiology and healthy living that supports Chiropractic treatment. By losing my health at a young age, it has created an empathy for others in pain. My passion and purpose for the last 22 years is to help people get out of pain without the use of drugs or surgery. To help people get back to doing the things they love and having the best quality and quantity of life.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing about running a business, household, being married, being a father, coach or this life is easy. Doing hard things is necessary. The struggles and tough things of this life have been learning tools. I trust everything happens for a reason. Most of the time the difficult things of this life come to make sense in the end. I strive not to focus on the tough things of this life and always look for the lesson to be learned. There is always something it seems like. When you own a business, run a household, your wife runs a business, you have children, pets and yourself to take care of. Things just seem to not go your way. I still strive to just trust the Lord and praise him in the storms of this life. Embracing brokenness and not trying to fix things that are broken has been a critical for me to continue to move forward through the hard times.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’ve always prayed that the lord bring me the sickest of the sickest, the broken, the hopeless and use me as an instrument to help ease the suffering in the upstate of South Carolina. I have seen thousands of serious cases turn their health around through healthy living and Chiropractic. Education on how the body works and what specifically disrupts the nervous system has been the foundation in which I’ve gained trust and followers in the community. Most people want to know what they can do to get control of their health. I have taken it upon myself to empower patients into care. Encourage patients to live better and make changes in their lifestyle that help turn their health around. Its more important what you do for your health than any doctor. Understanding “why” you need to change is key to doing the “what”. Most patients that walk in my office need to make little tweeks in how they care for themselves. My job is to guide them through those changes and give them the best care to improve their brain to body communication with proper spinal adjustments. I do my best and go the extra mile to inspire my patients to do what it takes to get well and stay well naturally. I strive to treat patients the way I wish I was treated when I was suffering with my back injury. My recommendations center around optimizing nerve flow through Chiropractic spinal adjusments, therapeutic massage, stretches, traction, self trigger points therapy, proper hydration, detoxing, eating well, weight resistant exercise, sleeping well, supplementing to support diet, and pulsed electro magnetic therapy. What I’ve found is, the patients that are willing to learn, willing to implement, make appointments and work on bad habits are the ones who overcome their health concerns. It is so refreshing to see the smiles return to my patients face. The renewed faith in their healing body. The ability to get back to living life to their fullest. Being a Chiropractor has never been a job to me. It has been a way to bless others and be blessed. I love what I get to do!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I have had a lot of questions in my head about this life. I’ve strived to find answers by going to what seems like the ends of the earth. I think understanding who I am and where I’ve come from has been key. In a lot of ways, I was shown how not to live by some of my family, community and friends. I’ve had to unlearn a lot of things and change to be the best I can be for my family and this community. I would say the most important thing that has helped me to do that is to show myself grace, my family grace and any one who has harmed me. Its so difficult to do in some situations. Forgiving others helps you to rest, to relax and move forward as a person and a child of God. I have taken it upon myself to pour what I’ve learned into others. I have a heart for helping teens and 20 somethings find their calling and way. If it weren’t for people like some of my old coaches or amazing faithful family focused men like Dr. Chris Ehlich or Dr. George Auger who took time to guide me through tough times I wouldn’t be who I am today. I strive to pay it forward and help the next generation. I love seeing the light bulb go off in these young men and women and see them grow through their circumstances or challenges.
