Hi Domonique , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About 15 years ago I started doing my own makeup fascinated with beauty in middle school and knew I wanted to branch out and start a career as a makeup artist, turning my love for beauty into a passion I could share. My brother bought my first piece of makeup from MAC Cosmetics and after that I took off. I didn’t have it all figured out, but I had a gift—making people feel beautiful, seen, and confident. I worked with what I had, often doing makeup on the go for bridal parties and video shoots for local artists , in my living room and small setups, just trying to perfect my craft.
Eventually, I realized beauty was deeper than makeup as I loved to pamper myself. It wasn’t just about glam—it was about healing skin, restoring confidence, and creating a full experience. That led me to become a licensed esthetician. I went Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in 2018 , studied hard and Graduated 6 months later with the support of My family and amazing teacher Crystal Stocking! I stepped into a whole new level of purpose !
Today, I own Designer Faces, a luxury body-focused spa built around self-care, confidence, and results. I specialize in full body waxing, body facials like back and vajacials, makeup, and more. What started with a makeup brush is now a full-circle experience—from glam to glow, from survival to strategy. And I’m still growing, still building, still learning , still evolving and still making beauty feel like home. This career is not easy at all but I won’t give up on my dream !
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. I’ve faced financial challenges during different seasons that made it hard to keep pushing forward. There were times when personal hardships affected my motivation, and I had to fight to stay focused on my goals. Staying up-to-date on esthetic knowledge and trends is a constant responsibility, especially while juggling life and business.
Building my brand in a small town where self-care isn’t fully normalized has been tough, but it’s also fueled my mission to shift the mindset and show people the value in investing in themselves. I’ve made mistakes along the way, but every one of them has taught me something. Another challenge has been adapting to how promotion works now—it’s a lot more digital and fast-paced than it used to be. Learning how to market in today’s world has pushed me to grow as both a businesswoman and creative.
