Inspiring Conversations with Diana Ariza of ASTA Business

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Ariza.

Hi Diana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Who am I?

My story and how it started… will develop into a huge long story but I’ll try to be as focused and short as possible…

I am a Colombian, born in Bogotá which is the capital city. I came to the USA at 14 years old to Miami, FL. I am a young business owner of a Digital Marketing Agency that started back in 2016 while living and working in Miami.

ASTA business started as a business agency to register startups in Miami, and suddenly my business grew to be a marketing agency that assists business owners to structure their business, marketing plans and tons of digital marketing tools such as social media management, campaigns, non-profit marketing, branding, logo design and coaching.

I love to be in the USA and I am thankful for all the opportunities that I have been granted. I grew up here and I have lived the best years of my life with tons of lessons due to the different races and cultures.

I am a mom of two kids with disabilities. Throughout the years I also developed a disability that prevents me from performing as well as I would love to. I have ADHD, dyslexia, and many autoimmune disorders that sometimes put me in a wheelchair or total full bed rest due to stress and physical symptoms.

Since I became a mom and because of these life experiences, I have always been in the search for something flexible to help the community and help those who have started their own businesses.

I am a nurse by profession. I graduated in Orlando, while I was doing school and work in the corporate world. I have experience in the financial sector and as an executive administrative assistant. I met my sweetheart in college and since then we have grown together and lived in Maryland, Miami, and Orlando, then we called Greenville, SC home for four years. We have 2 kids, one girl, and one boy, and we love to spend time with them. They are my inspiration and my constant motor to keep going and keep my business running. My daughter is the sunshine and the proud daughter who always asks me about the business owners. She feels very proud that we know the owner of a coffee shop in town “Unlocked coffee” and their family. She feels like she owns the world. My son gets excited and constantly tells me about the new tendencies and what things I could improve since he is exposed more to the trendy and tech world. I love to write, and so we wrote a book about digital marketing and free tools for business owners that will be released soon on Amazon. I also write and contribute to Medium.com as well as Linkedin. I love to create content and make newsletters because it is my way to engage and share good news, trends and what is out there for the business owner who needs help in that area.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had a lot of struggles, from separation from my hubby, up to the financial crisis where I did not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Being a business owner brings a lot of bumpy roads. I always say “what can I learn from this? And move on and grow professionally in order for me to be better with small business owners.” I love to support local businesses, but many owners do not understand the importance of digital marketing and the work that it entai. Because of that, the low-budget client becomes a very heavy load for us, as it is almost a hand-holding job. Don’t get me wrong, I love to help and answer questions, but those owners require more education and in the end, they don’t truly appreciate all the effort and time that content, posts, and strategy takes.

It has been a learning curve, to learn who to reach out to and who to fire as a client, I don’t like to be that selective, but some owners are not prepared to listen with an open mind that some strategies could work. Others however are happy to listen and through planning and consistency, social media for sure is a great tool to have passive marketing positioning the brand where it should be.

We’ve been impressed with ASTA Business, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
ASTA business started thanks to the marketer who managed the brands Pepsi in Colombia, he did the first TEDx Bogota talk in Colombia and he has more than 25 years of experience. My brand was his baby and I’m always thankful for all the knowledge, the logo design and branding, and all his input into my brand. I grew professionally and personally thanks to big supporters like Juan Bermudez, David Uribe and Paul & John from Media8 in Miami.
