Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Jefferson.
Hi Deborah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story began as a woman searching for healing, purpose, and her own voice. For years, I carried the weight of difficult experiences while pouring into others and putting many of my own dreams aside. Writing became the place where I could be honest about my pain, faith, growth, and emotions. What started as private thoughts and poetry eventually became published books and a calling to encourage others.
Today, I am Deborah Jefferson—an author, poet, life coach, caregiver, entrepreneur, and the founder of Harobeds Thoughts LLC and the Our Words Matter Authors Expo. My journey has not been easy, but every challenge has helped shape the woman I am becoming. I now use my story and my words to remind others that healing is possible, their voices deserve to be heard, and their stories matter.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth. I have had to build my dreams while navigating personal loss, health challenges, financial uncertainty, caregiving responsibilities, and the emotional work of healing from difficult life experiences. There were times when I questioned whether I had the strength, resources, or support to continue.
Becoming an independent author and entrepreneur also meant learning many parts of the business on my own—from publishing and marketing to organizing events and creating opportunities for other authors. Balancing those responsibilities while caring for my family has often required me to move more slowly than I would like. However, every obstacle has taught me resilience, patience, faith, and the importance of continuing even when progress does not look perfect. My challenges did not stop my story; they helped give it purpose.
We’ve been impressed with Harobeds Thoughts LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Harobeds Thoughts LLC is a creative and literary company built around the belief that every person’s story and words matter. Through books, journals, workshops, coaching, author services, interviews, and community events, I create spaces that encourage healing, personal growth, self-expression, and connection.
I am best known as an author, poet, life coach, and the founder of the Our Words Matter Authors Expo. I also help independent authors share their work, build their visibility, and navigate parts of the publishing journey. What sets Harobeds Thoughts apart is that the work comes from lived experience. I do not simply encourage people to tell their stories—I openly use my own journey to show that pain can become purpose and that healing does not have to be perfect to be meaningful.
I am especially proud of growing the Our Words Matter Authors Expo into an annual event that brings authors, vendors, readers, and community organizations together. Above all, I want readers to know that Harobeds Thoughts is more than a business. It is a platform created to help people embrace their voices, honor their journeys, and recognize the power of their words.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is making a skirt outfit with my grandmother on her sewing machine. The fabric had yellow and white stripes, and it was the first outfit I had ever helped create. I remember feeling so proud that we had turned a piece of fabric into something I could actually wear. That experience sparked my creativity, and for a long time afterward, I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer—or a seamstress, as my grandmother called it. More than the outfit itself, I treasure the time, patience, and creativity my grandmother shared with me.
